X-Tube and cork tape

1 Attachment(s)
Wrapping up a matching pair of Batson's. SW1208 and SU1209.
Using cork tape and Amtack's new X-tube to make split butt grips. So far the X-tube seems to work and look great. Just not sure how I want to finish the transition between the X-tube and the cork tape. Any suggestions????????
Goose... you did something like this.. how did you finish off the transition?..

Thanks
Bob

why the X tube and CT . I have used the X tube alone or over the entire length for added thickness of the grip but not the way you show in the pictures.

Like the feel of the cork tape just below the seat. And wanted to use the X-tube to lighten up the rod. Have done split grips leaving the blank exposed between the upper and lower grips, but wanted the X-tube to protect the blank from bumbs and dings.

I would probably sand down the cork where the tube overlaps it for a smoother transition and wrap the ends with thread otherwise the tube will twist on you. I have found that the tube works best with a thin coat of epoxy under it to stop it from twisting.

Sand down the CT if not to late then use a little super glue to lock it then aply the shrink tube over and put about 1/2" band of Black thread over the X tube and CT and epoxy.

I took a foam for-grip, cut 1" or so off the end and epoxy it over the tube, nice finished look. I taped off the butt with cork for the fater feel and anti-slim;), I also cut about a 1/4" off the butt cap itself, that gave the butt a nice transaction from butt cape to tape (doubt most would notice) a little fine sanding will make your thread lay over nice. Sorry I didn't respond sooner.

I prefer a burled-cork grip.....nice and thick for my large hands , comfortable and very durable if taken care of.....plus it looks fabulous!;)

Goose,
That looks nice and clean. Thanks for putting up the pic.
I like the shrink tube and cork tape combo the more I see and handle it. 3M has shrink in a bunch of colors, Got to love the possibilities there....:D
