FF,
Wish I was in, crewed on a Newport Boat for a bunch of years, fishing Oak, and Snug, (we won snug in 1997 with a big blue dawg) lots of fun, but I hate the waste involved, even though Bio guys get em at OB's, the Blue dawgs get dumped after Snug... not a big fan of that, however I have no problems with bagging a mako or Thresher.. in fact we took a small mako last year that was hooked near the gills and bleeding profusly... no guilt about that one yummy! |

All the fish in the OB Tourney is donated to the Boston Food Bank. There is a penalty for bringing in a Blue shark under 300 pounds. It's a good way to make sure too many fish aren't just brought in for the sake of bringing them in. 200 pound minumum for a Mako & Thresher to be weighed in.
|
FF,
What is that second picture? White, Porbeagle, Mako??? |
RR, thats still alot of wasted blue shark.....
Mako and Thresher I have no problem with that, theytaste great.... |
RIROCKHOUND, All of the meat goes to the Boston Food Bank including the Blue shark. I personally not a fan of blue shark, but I'm sure the people in need appreciate it.
|
Cool, didnt know that...
Snug still wastes them though :af: |
2'nd pic is a mako.
i've actually brought a blue shark home to eat. i gave most of it away to about ten different people who we're not aware of the rumors of how nasty they are. i got mixed feedback from all of them. one, a very good friend of mine said it was edible, but mostly mushy and tasteless. the others, mostly friends from down on the dock, all loved it!! i did not try it, but i'm sure if it's prepared in certain ways it can be somewhat decent. the fish was gutted alive and packed in a canyon bag and filled with ice imediatly, so that probably preserved the meat. as for one thats been sitting on a hot deck all day :yak6: |
I was at the boston food bank on tuesday and they said they won't be taking any shark this year due to food safety concerns.
