FF,
Wish I was in, crewed on a Newport Boat for a bunch of years, fishing Oak, and Snug, (we won snug in 1997 with a big blue dawg) lots of fun, but I hate the waste involved, even though Bio guys get em at OB's, the Blue dawgs get dumped after Snug... not a big fan of that, however I have no problems with bagging a mako or Thresher.. in fact we took a small mako last year that was hooked near the gills and bleeding profusly... no guilt about that one yummy!

All the fish in the OB Tourney is donated to the Boston Food Bank. There is a penalty for bringing in a Blue shark under 300 pounds. It's a good way to make sure too many fish aren't just brought in for the sake of bringing them in. 200 pound minumum for a Mako & Thresher to be weighed in.

FF,
What is that second picture? White, Porbeagle, Mako???

RIROCKHOUND 07-01-2004 01:56 PM

RR, thats still alot of wasted blue shark.....
Mako and Thresher I have no problem with that, theytaste great....

Rip Runner 07-01-2004 02:07 PM

RIROCKHOUND, All of the meat goes to the Boston Food Bank including the Blue shark. I personally not a fan of blue shark, but I'm sure the people in need appreciate it.

RIROCKHOUND 07-01-2004 03:00 PM

Cool, didnt know that...
Snug still wastes them though :af:

thefishingfreak 07-01-2004 04:22 PM

2'nd pic is a mako.

i've actually brought a blue shark home to eat.
i gave most of it away to about ten different people who we're not aware of the rumors of how nasty they are.
i got mixed feedback from all of them.
one, a very good friend of mine said it was edible, but mostly mushy and tasteless.
the others, mostly friends from down on the dock, all loved it!!
i did not try it, but i'm sure if it's prepared in certain ways it can be somewhat decent.
the fish was gutted alive and packed in a canyon bag and filled with ice imediatly, so that probably preserved the meat.
as for one thats been sitting on a hot deck all day :yak6:

I was at the boston food bank on tuesday and they said they won't be taking any shark this year due to food safety concerns.
