Metal Lips
I'm making my first plugs that have metal lips and I have a question. Do you glue the lip into the slot or does the wire hold it tight to the body?
|
Some guys add some epoxy to the lip, others don't. You'll need to get the wire reeaaaally tight to the body if you do not use glue. Not that you want a loose wire even if you glue them ;)

just a newb myself, i've been epoxing before wiring, don't think it can hurt.
|
just what i was looking for...I am interested in trying to make a few small swimmers.
makes sence to epoxy first then throughwire. do any of you guys make your own lips? tin snips? |
Word of advice....don't use Gorilla Glue to hold the lip in place, After a few swims the Salt Water will eat the glue and you will have to redo the lips. I now use the 5 minute epoxy to hold them in place.

I don't
epoxy should get in through the slot. first swimmers I did I put epoxy on the lip and in the slot and man that lip moved around, I had the body and lip on a coathanger and epoxyed the body and as I fliped it. the lip was moving:wall: I wire them first so I know the lip will stay where it is

A tight tail wrap will keep them in place so far as I have found. That is all I use. I also epoxy after assembly so that adds strength too. P.

MXCB--- straight tin snips, vice grips, stainless, belt sander and vice.
Tinman said he would be making some SS for lips available soon on NJ Tackle. Harbor Freight has a small metal break available for $20. Like BM would say, "welcome to lip hell." :D |
I have FREE stainless strips (2" wide by approx 12" long) available to anyone on this board that asks for it. either combine it with an order or just cover the postage if you only need the SS for now. I have a bunch, but its not for bulk giveway obviously, but rather avail to anyone that wants to experiment with their own designs etc. Just email me.
