Striper eggs???
I just cleaned a nice 36 inch fish. Its stomache was empty, but it still had two full egg sacks in it. Is it breeding in this area, or did it just not breed, and these eggs are leftover???

chef, it happened. we all catch females unintentionally.

I'm curious how we can tell that we've landed a female striper and that it's pregnant? BTW, Chef, nice sized stripah!

back in the 1600's stripers spawned in many rivers along the atlantic. today most spawning is done in the hudson river with minor action in some of the rivers that dump into the deleware bay. who knows, we may be on to something here, and it can't be a bad thing. nice fish!

Could have been a holdover who was too sick to make the trip to the chesapeake. Because it didnt make the trip it never spawned.

there's no way to tell a male from a female from the outside.
during the spawn you can squeeze 'em a little and see what comes out. eggs or sperm. i would think all bass would be spawned by now though. |
