That would be great ! I think we will go down that area again soon......I enjoyed the trip |
They say they are great eating. Too bony for me.

Gr8 Bait

Kids love fishing for these...it is usually fast action and on a light rod it is fun.... If you fillet the larger one (a little bit of a pain) they are pretty good to eat....sweet mild meat. Pan fry them and Kids like to eat their catch too!
|
I grew up catching and eating ALOT of scup. My Mom makes the smaller ones fried:drool: 'I just had some a matter a fact' larger ones boiled or baked. Their very easy to eat. After gutting and scaling... just cut in portions(don't fillet) when cooked, big white chunks of meat are easily taken off the bones with hands or fork. yuuuum-mie

Over the weekend I was catching some monsters over 14 inches long on my 4" split tails, which were also being inhaled by large stripers. Funny the bigger they got the more blotchy the coloring got, must be something to do with the age of the fish, not unlike my own coloring:). I've never bothered to bring them home for the table, but I do plan on getting some black sea bass soon, those are yummy eating and fillet out nicely like all bass.
|
Have a buddy that calls them " Sunfish of the Sea". Fitting name.
|
but there already is a sunfish of the sea....
:laughs: |
True enough. I just think it's fitting because they are plentifull, good to eat, get annoying, and are great to have kids catch!
Gotta love the real sunfish though...have never seen one jump like I heard they do, but can't wait to! |
Put 1 in a livewell. pretty cool, they get dark and blotchy until they go back in ocean. Nice baits though, lost a really nice fish on 1 last year
