Anybody Know Anything About Artesian Wells?
 

got an artesian well with a submersable pump(100" deep). pump keeps going on then off without building max. pressure on gauge, it takes about a minute to start after shutting off. electric seems fine. dug it up and pulled linewith pump and motor, any hints or ideas?

Don't know anything about Artisien wells but it sounds like your pump may be kicking out on a thermal overload. Draws too many amps, heats up trips the thermal, cools down and resets.....then happens all over again. The pump is starting to go, motor bearings maybe or something clogged in the pump casing causing it to draw more amps.

You probably don't have an Amprobe at home, you could measure to amp draw if you had one.

Does it operate on a pressure switch? If so that may need adjusting. Good Luck

Your tank may have lost it's charge. Most water tanks have air in them and when the pump starts the water caompresses the air and maitains the pressure in the house. If you lose charge, there isn't as much air to compress, so the pump cycles..

thanks guys. the pressure switch is new and the tanks bladder pressure is up to specs.

It could be the pressure switch, but it does sound more like a thermal overload on the pump motor. You mentioned the switch is new. Was it installed because of this problem, and the problem didn't go away?

adamr, i first thought is was the press. switch and replaced it, no change. gotta somehow check thermal overload? thanks, don

beamie's post covers it. You need to get your hands on a meter. An electrician would have one if you know any.
