The Drive and eels?
 

I was on The Drive early Saturday morning and caught a 26 incher (my largest fish from shore) on a white Bomber with a red tip. I had a few more hits, but no hook-ups....

I'd like to pull in a keeper from shore one of these days and I figure eels are a good bet. Whats the best way to fish eels? Sink'em? Cast and retrieve? Does it matter if its day or night?

right now, you have to go at night... if its durring the day it has to be overcast. your odds will go up tenfold for a keeper if you go out at night. Plugs or eels.

Definetly go at night, surf w/ white water is best. If there is large surf or strong current ill count to 5 before i begin the retrieve. Just reel it in real slow, one revolution per 5 seconds.

Thanks for all the advice. I went back to the same spot tonight and fished the ebb-tide., but I didn't have eels. I caught 2 more fish (both schoolies), both caught on a Bomber within ten minutes of each other. Rain started coming so I made some preprarations to waitout and fish the rain, but then I heard deep rummbling , so I decided to get off the rocks and out of the water... unfortunately the deep rummbling WAS rocks, not lightening and thounder. I fished the beach area for a few more minutes and then called it quits

There was a couple of serrious fishermen out on some rocks near the wave breaks I would have like to have seen what they were getting into?

Does anyone know about the weather conditions tomorrow afternoon whitewater????????

Supposed to be a good sw blow thurs night.

Went to a private spot last nite and there was a good swell running - which called for caution.

This particular spot calls for more than a little respect because you're only gonna get one 'Ooops' :hs: The rocks are pretty jagged even by Rhody standards and barnacle-covered - ya don't wanna have to find yourself trying to clamber back up if you wipe out, that's for sure.....but man, it was real bass-y water there...

Anyway, didn't knock 'em dead, no wall-hangers, but We did get into fish, mostly smaller. The water was pretty murky - a combination of run-off from the rain and the swell. Fortunately not a lot of weed - and the swell diminished slightly with the outgoing. Habs olive over white needlefish were the ONLY ticket last nite, btw...we tried everything else.

There's still a good swell going, be very careful - wind's gonna clock around to SW tomorrow - that's a good thing :)

Bring eels - AND korkers wherever ya go - and be careful in the dark if you're out after sundown and not familiar with the rocks you're on.

F-in bass stole my 2 oz olive needle last monday!!!:af: :af: 3 casts with it after i ran outta eels and i had a fatty 20-30lb cow, which broke me off, damn nick in my guide i think!!!:af: :af: Still have a 3.5 oz left to toss around.

chef, take a Q-tip and rub it all over the ceramic part of your guides...if theres a crack the cotton will stick to it and you'll know if its cracked or not

I did hord quite a few needles and tattoo spooks and darters.
