surfcasting locations
hey everyone new to the forums heavily procrastinating at the office and stumbled upon them :) just looking for some insight on where there's been good fish surfcasting this year. i dont ussually get out on a boat. im open for travel anywhere in massachusetts. i spend most of the summer fishing off the breakwater at eastern point lighthouse in gloucester(familiar with it?) ive taken some nice fish there biggest was about 45 inches close to 30 #'s but this year its been horrendous the number of dogfish ive run into. caught abouit 30 of them last weekend and im surely not in the mood to do taht again. so anyway any suggestions as to good places to surf cast in the area?

I don't fish up there so I have little to recommend (and as a practice I don't mention spots online) but I can give you a few details on what to look for on your own... Find places within a reasonable walk from where you can legally park a car and access the shoreline, find rocky areas along shore (wearing Korkers !!!), go down without a rod a low tide and look for holes and rocks and bars and any kind of structure AND LOOK FOR PLACES TO GET OUT OF THE WATER WHEN HOLDING A FISH- go back at high tidde, see what you have to work with, see how the water moves over these spots with the tide running. See where the rips are, the whitewater, any streams dumping in, BAIT see if you can find bait. Once you've scouted around a bit, go back - with a friend that fishes - and fish...
That's a start :) .. Also, get the OTW book for shore fishing the Cape... |
Ever try halibut point state park?

Welcome to the site Surfcastinglife! Must be some pretty sweet surfcasting up your way....I keep meaning to make a trip up to Goodharbor Beach and around there to do some fishing but I do most of my fishing down the backside on the Cape and it is hard to leave what I know the best! I live in Abington which is a stones throw to Scitute, Hull, Cohasset. Lots of great fishing here but it really does not get rolling until late August....at least the spots I like.;)
If you are wondering why BigMike is hiding behind that couch....no big deal! There just is not alot of "spot-burning" going on here! People will give out general locations however specific locations are not allowed and for many reasons. Just simply because if a spot is "burned" odds are there will be fifty people in that spot tomorrow and people are always sensitive about people giving out their spots....know what I mean? So keep your head down and watch out for flying objects and adjectives when spots are being burned.:D Again, welcome to the site....lots of fun and great people. More information here than anywhere you can imagine, and many people willing to help with just about anything.....cept' spots.;) |
Give me a pm and I'll give you some advice.
