Tricked-out Fishing-Bike
 

Does anyone have any pictures of a tricked-out fishing bike. :D

I live 2 miles from some of the greatest rock fishing areas in Newport and I've been pondering on whether to buy a junker bike and fix it up with rod holders and a basket, or do I just modify an existing mountain bike.

Any thoughts? Pictures will help.

i was thinking the same thing for the canal i want to get a 3 wheeler bike/adult tricycle what ever you want to call it for cheap $$ i would feel much safer on a 3wheeler put a basket in the backwith some rod holders and a i got a canal curiser
any use bike shops aroud the canal area or maybe a member has a junker 3weeler that they can sell

3 wheelers are a rear item now a days.. (common in florida)..

but if you can find one of the fat tired single speed jobs with the

wide handlebars (a la peewee herman bike) or a beach cruiser..

you can get baskets for the rear and front, rig up your own pvc

pipe rod holders.. and your half way there.. home depot has

cheap lunch box type (like play mate coolers).. for 6$ bungee

that and you ahve a cold bait box.. and your imagination could

take it from there. i have heard that some of the guys who

cruise the canal regularly with these bikes prefer the ladies bike

because its easier to get on and off with a rod in the holders..

I should take some photos of my old bike. Used to use it when I was fishing the piers mostly before i got a 4x4. Anyway it's "tricked out" with everything. Big zipper bag on the front actually mounted to the handlebars (cannondale bag), rack on the back with two rod holders secured to each side. Bungees to secure the tackel box, bait, towels etc to the back rack of the bike. I carried NOTHING!!! One thing I would recommend that I don't have which I think Ron talks about or mentions in his book is a 2nd kick stand. This is really imperative. It's VERY hard to keep a pack mule rigged up like this and get it to stand just right. As a matter of fact when I come back from vacation thats EXACTLY what I'm gonna do.

The small Aquaskinz plug bag has wrap around velcro straps that would go perfect around handle bars:D

Wrap on...ride to Pole # $%$...wrap off bike and around belt...fish spot until tide moves...walk back to bike...wrap on handle bars and ride to next spot

3 wheelers are extremely hard to find for cheap money 100+ .

get a womans bike so much easier to get on and off to chase the fish .

It's hard to find a 3-wheeler with multi-speed gears. And, they're more wind resistant than a 2-wheeler. I wouldn't want to pedal one from, say, the fishing pier to the Cribbin against a honking SW wind, which you get 7 days out of 8 in the summer. Plus, there are some subtle hills on the service road between the Sag and the east end---you'll notice them if you're pedaling a one speed bike.

Get a woman's style mountain bike. As Chris said, it's easier to swing your leg thru the low frame in front than over the back when you have a rod or two in the carriers.

I just bought a used kiddy cart at the bike shop, $40. I can fit my poles all my gear and a couple massive fish in it.

Just throw a basket on any bike. No need to spend too much. Baskets at Bennys under 20$

mike P is right on with the 3 wheeler with one speed . I feel like Ive peddled 300 miles just going from the pier at scusset to the herring run . A real good work out !

When the season starts to slow down, I'll look for a used beach-cruiser from a rental shop downtown. I'll toss a basket on it and some PVC rod holders. Pictures to follow

If you can come up west of boston I'll give you a ladies three speed with a milk crate and rocket launcher. I have too many canal bikes. Wife says get rid of a couple:D

i road my crusier(momsbike) from the RR bridge to the herring run today took my notebook and wrote down pole#s i am going to try my new spots at night i found some NICE rips and eddies from the current

It was a slack tide and the water looked great, but that only lasted fifthteen minutes. I tossed a few Danny's, jigs, and bombers, but nothing word.

i had no rod holders on my bike i was weareing a blaze orange helment olive shorts and a maroon shirt i had a white bike with pink cables i was scouting out some spots on the mainland side

It was my second time fishing the canal. Its a beautiful spot, but the current can wreck havoc on your plans if your not prepared. Next time I go, I'm waiting for a slack high tide.

Where are the pictures of the best canal bike ever....dvd player, hydraulics, nitrous, ....
