I have one and I put bearings in Mine, that reel has brass bushings that the spool axle slides into.
You may want to Buy it or just go up in reel class.......
I like Mine

We have the 7000-C3 on sale and it has 3 bearings not bushings

It Has 1 ball bearing, 5.3:1 gear ratio for a $100.00 I'd go with the 7000-C3 on sale and it has 3 bearings & not bushings that will make all the different in the world!
I don't own one but people swear by them!!!!!I

What kinda application & what stick are you thinking of matching it up with?
Not to disrupt your thinking but.......
I know that a lot of people are turning there heads towards the new and up comming AVET REELS there 100% made in America (PA.) the tolerances are tight & The drags are very smooooooth!Not to mention the amount of bearings in each one.

Plus dollar 4 dollar there the best priced bet yet!

I have a Calcutta 700 it's five years old, I have replaced the left spool bearing 2 years ago (self fault) but besides that it's awesome, I love it & use it every time I go to the Canal to drift eels.
I would recommend the Calcutta as well but it is not American made, and it's more $$ than the AVET.If the AVET was around five years ago..........I would considered it..........It's your Money it's what ever works for you.

This is my first conventional in years, so Im really not sure of all the details. My father has an ambassadeur and likes it, although he hasnt fished in a few years and didnt remeber the model as its in storage.

I unfortunately have a car, so Ill be most likely picking up a 2 piece 10' unless I find out that I can somehow manange to fit a one piece in my car and out the window without being a road hazard.

Usage... eels/plugs in the canal... 99%

7000 C-3 good reel. Ask Mike T about a rod while you are there, he'll point you in the right direction.

Im gonna check at lunch and see how far a one piece sticks out of my car... If its not too bad, Newell has a rod I am gonna take a look at...

Otherwise, I will be doing just that.

Definitely go with the C3. Forget the bushing reels.

there are some great two piece rods available these days too if the one piece won't fit in the car. All my main rods are now two piece except my canal rod and a lighter 8 foot rod..

My wife got me a couple of the 7000's as a gift a month or so ago and they are already junk! The reel no longer engages by just cranking the handle, I need to pull the button out manualy with my finger in order to engage. This problem started with one reel a week after I got it, the other started experiancing the same issues last week.

Own 2, Good reels for the canal A red c3 and black Big Game. Easy to take care of and very durable. Have had the red c3 for 5 yrs and still works fine

To those who have one, what line would you put on it?
I was thinking 30lb test... I use a 60lb leader...

Any opinions?

I have a couple of 5000, 6500 and 6600 and I use 40 and 50 lb PowerPro on all my ABU's That way I can get some extra line on those reels.

I don't have a 7000 yet so I'm waiting for the feedback here before I invest in one :)

You think the narrow spool is better? I looked at them both at Don's place.
I have looked a the 7000c3 and I like that one. Cost is OK for the c3.

For eels and plugs 30lbBerkley Big Game(green) has served me well in the canal. Might want to wait untill you get used to the reel before putting braid. I have 65lb PP on both used mostly for jigging

I never Jig..... and I dont really care for Braid at all...
It was definitely going to be Mono...

Prolly 30 or 40lb test from what Im hearing.

get a C3 and if your using on a beach 35# spectron braid . if for the canal 50# spectron . I havent used the narrow spool 7000hsn yet .

I have 3 big game 7000 , a C3 , a sport rocket and a 7200 . these are really nice reels for catching big fish . just change out the stock drag washers with Extreme smoothies . Mike carries them also .

Like Chris says absolutely change out the drag washers.The C-3 is one of the best all around reels for castin but the drags are brittle an cause problems right away..U can set it up so's U can fire away an not backlash. I tighten the right side hand snug an adjust from the left.the thinnnest (Smaller diameter)line u can get away with the better U can cast. 20-25lb with a 40 -50 lb leader will do U right If u break off a fish on 25 big game chances are U don't wanna be on the same rock with it anyways.I heard some horror stories with the new big game reels Mike was tellin me the main gear is a 2-piece stainless configuration (the old ones where brass)that seems to be seperatin under stress.I would stay away till they get that resolved.If U can I would check Mike out At Cape Cod tackle he is knowledgeable an won't stear ya wrong.He has told me he's takin things out cause of basic problems the manufactures would not fix so it wouldn't be trouble the fisherman. plus I think he has some sort of discout for guys on the board .Good deal.its good to see a shop with a hands on guy that is into his industry an craft.I hate the wallmarts an sports depots.for that reason try askin one of the people at the counter there how something works...

I got the reel(C3), picked up a 10' 2 piece tica for it too... I didnt get any replacement washers for it, ill do that in the coming weeks

I like it alot. Not too many problems given how long its been since Ive used a conventional...

Its just REALLY weird picking up that for a few hours and then trying to cast what has been my heavy spinning rod. It doesnt feel so heavy anymore.
