Driveway sealing
 

And now for something completely different........

I need to do my driveway over with driveway sealer and I have never done it before. I have been told that it isn't hard. Do any of you have experience in this or can you point me in the right direction????

Also, our driveway is sloped (I loved snow and ice like you can't believe!:mad: ) so I am thinking.... do you think there is a substance I can sprinkle on to give it some grit, in hopes of avoiding a shattered vertebrate this winter....

I'm thinking some clean beach sand or playground sand like the hardware store sells.....:rolleyes:

I sealed my driveway a while back and learned a couple of things...

try not to seal it on a bright hot day...the sealer dries too fast and if you're not quick enough, you can end up with streaks from one section drying faster that the other. This happens if you put a 2nd coat in only some spots too..

if you use a squeegee...buy one of the better ones. i used a cheapo and it was more of a pain in the arse than what it was worth.

try to move in one general direction. lastly, i think i read in "this old house" magazine about a sealer that contains a non-slip material...try them on-line.

Hoop, Consider having someone do it. I got 200 ft drive and found it was not much more $$ to have someone do it, and avoid the sweat and hassle. :D

I was gonna say the same thing....but I figured you might wanna tackle it yourself....I should have paid someone and spent the day with rod & reel instead:smash:

I have a wide driveway and watched while it took my neighbor two days to do it himself and he was covered with it by the time he was done, so paying someone else to do it when the time comes is a no-brainer, and they'll add the grit if you want them to. I had heard petroleum based driveway sealer is more durable, but harder to find than the latex. We got crews of guys who drive around in these little trucks covered in the stuff. They remind me of the tanker in "Duel" and get the job done in less than three hours for about $250.00.

The best time to seal your driveway is when they seal the road that it leads to.

I just had a new driveway poured this morning . nice to have a driveway again . when it comes time to seal it Ill hire it out . been there done that !
