Arggh!

This time I gotta real reason vent...:af:

I was pulling out some root stumps at home with my Tacoma this afternoon and was using a piece of chain to wrap around the root and a length of old mooring line... O.k. no big deal with the little bushes it was like pulling loose teeth...

Then I go for the mother of all bushes... it was a big one, and I loaded up the line so hard with my truck that the schackel let go... So where do you think the 10 feet of line and 5 feet of chain go?? Flying straight across my hood, cracking my windshield, snapping off my antenna.. Theres a huge scrape across my hood....

live and learn..next time i'll use all chain... no rope (chain doesnt stretch like a rubber band) :(

never ever stand in the line of fire:smash: .......

that sucks about the truck.

Mooring line..What were you thinking?

Why do you need to pull the stumps anyway, were'nt you going to build a deck over there, or are you talking about somewhere else.

Old 4x4'ers trick.....drop a blanket or large beach towel over the middle of the line/chain....will drop like a wet rag if it ever breaks. I pull things ALL the time with my truck....I've pulled 12' root balls 8' out of the ground with it....cource I did do a few 4low wheel stands but what u expect with a 9k pound truck :D

Spence, you got it... remember those huge nasty overgrown bushes in front of the house... 75% are gone:D I changed my mind about the deck and am going to try to get some grass growing there....

spence 08-04-2004 06:28 AM

Eben, didn't I say you should use me for some landscape advice :smash:

Where the bush's are you want a pernenial bed with grass around it. I'd just cut the stumps down as deep as you can, unless you've already pulled them.

Worst case it settles a bit, but you shouldn't have a problem if it's planted. Next time I'm driving by I can stop and give some advice on how to cheat, trust me I'm good at it :D

Thanks TT-

Spence- Lots of shade... in fact theres so much shade I'm worried grass wont grow:(

spence 08-04-2004 02:59 PM

Grass will probably grow in the shade as long as the soil isn't too acidic. Instead of grass you could do some low-light ground cover. There are lots of options...

Regardless don't worry about it. You have plenty on your plate :smash:
