Late night surprise

I was fishing with Goose this past weekend and even though us greenhorns are known to be ok fishermen I would have never guessed what would be biting on my line that night. We were tossing eels into the rocks and having an ok night, actually we were laughing to hard to have a bad night, always a trip with that gringo :laughs: ....One thing about Goose, fish or not...it's always a good time. We had some decent eels, 1 or 2 shoe-strings - the rest were nice and fat, well I throw on this fattie...lob it into a volcano pit of rocks and seconds later I'm on. Seems the bigger fish always hit in the toughest situations, you'd think they know what they're doing or something ;)...I finally work this fish out of the pit and after another short run or 2 she's within range. Too dark to see, even harder with the fish exploding up close..so I shine the red light on the water...and what to my wondering eyes does appear...

A CARP!!

Has anyone ever caught a Carp on Eels? Is this common for our waters? Does anyone know any good Carp recipes?

 I'm curious to read your replys.

is that a carp? it looks like a mixed gene of bass and red drum

Rob Rockcrawler 08-09-2004 12:43 PM

looks like a stripah with some lip issues.

Notaro 08-09-2004 12:53 PM

probably it has been kissing on something really big and messing up his lips.

goose isnt a gringo ! he does grin alot !

esqueeze me but thats not a carp . the mouth looks like a mouth not a vacuum mouth butthole .

Bloo, that is obviously a striper that has migrated from down south, as opposed to being a resident holdover. What all those looking at the picture can't see is the huge wad of RedMan between his bottom lip and left gill plate....

If you read "stripers 101" by John the salt water bapist, chapter 1; verses 5-9..... it states, not not sling eels near bass that feed near lobster pots.:D

:claps: :claps: ....Youz guyz made me proud. I couldn't fool any of you. Unfortunately - the only prize I have for you is the fact that those who didn't reply.........probably got fooled. :humpty:

I don't really think it was a hybrid striper. I was thinking more along the lines that when this fish was younger...it was caught and released, the trebble hooks were probably pretty buried in the top lip and the angler didn't take the time to remove the hooks properly or just couldn't ..due to the situation. I'm sure you guys have had that happen before, never the less...the angler did a good enough job because it lived to grow and eat again...I also released it.

Thanks for playing -

Absolutely not a carp (we call them "bugle mouth bass" where I come from. Carp have a very fleshy thick-lipped (often yellow) mouth that is shaped like a freshwater silver sucker.

CANAL RAT 08-09-2004 09:58 PM

that striper has been smoking to many cigars:laughs: :laughs:
