Browser isnt working with 56k?
 

Hey.. Son of the Great Capesams here ;)

Um i have a interesting problem here.

I have a computer here that a client of mine only uses 56k to connect to the internet, it was recently formatted. It worked before that (connect, browser, etc) but then new OS upgrade (to xp, fresh install from 98 SE). So now, the 56k will connect to the 'net but nothing is coming in or going out, browser doesnt work (page not available) ping turns up nothing.

However when I hook it up to my home network (cable) it works beautiful, data goin in and out, etc etc. I know that the connection settings for the 56k is fine because i've talked to the internet provider services and allthat, walked me thru it, everythin checks out. maybe you guys have an idea. Any help would be appreciated.

Go into Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections

Check the settings in there and make sure that the dialup connection is added in the "Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings" dialogue.

Also run the connection wizard again on the machine.
That should take care of the issues. :D

Is the modem dailing out? I only ask cuz on your cable connection you're goin through the nic, not the modem.

If you have another modem I'd toss it in the box and throw that modem on a box that had the working modem as a way to test it out..

ThrowingTimber - Yeah, I tried that. The modem itself is fine, it's acutally dialing out and connecting but nothing's showing up in the browser.. apparently they're having 'server problems' where ppl can connect but not get any data through, which is a crock i think. Bad ISP i guess, i think it's time for a change.
