And a few of these guys this morning :) Bonito?
Do you have a permit? Scoolie yellow fin and a bonito.
Yes I have a permit. All the tuna caught were released.
The vertical stripes on the first fish threw me for a loop, I couldn't match it up with any fish on the charts I have. |
its only a crime if you get caught.;) Nice job! how was the fight?
you sure that ain't a skipjack ?
i dont know, mabey? dont skipjacks have stripes on there belly?
first one is a bluefin.they have those stripes when there little.no long dorsal, like a yellowfin
2'nd one is a bonito. |
I agree, 1st fish is a bluefin which have to 27" to keep and the second is a bonito. Both are great fish to catch on light tackle.
Never mind, I didn't see your second post where you said you released all the fish.
It's still a good idea to be able to ID various tuna, in case you ever want to keep one for the grill. |
Seems like I'm not the only one confused I see suggestions from YellowFin to SkipJack to BlueFin. Thanks for the help :)
BFT top
bonito bottom All i see is sushi :D |
OK- I think thats 3-4 votes for schoolie BFT, I'm going with that :).
bluefin
bonito=great bait |
Bluie fin, my mistake. Sorry.:)
FWIW, for next time. The easiest and most reliable way to tell BFT from YFT or Bigeyes is by the pectoral fins. If the Pec. fin doesn't extend beyond the origin of the second dorsal its a BFT if it does its either a YFT or a bigeye.

good answer
