van staal
hey guys. I've been a longtime watcher of this board, and totally respect the opinions of all. Today I picked up a really sweet custom glass 8' rod from CMS. This afternoon my wife and I went to Newport for our anniversary and we made a stop at the Saltwater Edge. My wife surprises me and tells me to pick out what ever I wanted. Well, thinking new rod, I was thinking new reel. Joking around I pointed out a Van Staal and said "how about one of those." She said "sure". I said those reels cost $6-700.00. She said "o.k." (god, I love her and her spending ways!!) Any help with reel size, and opinion on the new Van Staal's would be huge help. I'm thinking the V.S. 250. Thanks for any help.

I think if you tell where and what you want to fish with, people would have a better idea. Thinking about getting a 150 for the outer beaches(not rocky areas)
|
mostly will be used on beaches, but occasionally will see the canal
|
The 150 should be perfect for the rod. The 250 is much to big. Now it's your turn for her birthday. If you were smart you would stay away from any jewlery stores and head back to Saltwater Edge.

VS 100- 8 ft
VS 150- 9 ft VS 200-10 ft VS 250- 11ft This is how I marry them up. Opinions will vary, but a good guideline. You now gotta decide on where ya gonna fish most. A 10ft Lami(GSB120L) is a pretty good all round blank. Match it to a VS200 or VS 250 and you're in good shape. |
i run VS 300's on anything over 9'. but, i don't know anything..... :smash:

guys, thank you for steering me in the right direction. I was thinking for her birthday maybe a trip to M&D's for a little something (HABS!!!!!!!!!!!)
|
you better start saving now for her birthday . she deserves it ! does she have a sister that spends the same way ? oh wait I already married one .
|
I forgot to tell you guys that I bought her a laptop for an anniversary present.
