9er's rig, how do you fish them?
I got a 4 inch pearl shad rig, I'm heading out tomarrow and give it a shot with some leadcore. I read that because of the lift of the shads it won't sink 5 feet a color? I'll be in the bay near rockey point or barrington maybe prov point too. I've got a 16 foot lund, with a 30 yamaha. I'm sure the blues releave me of some of the tails. I'm hoping that some bass are on the bottom following the blues around. if your out there give me a wave. good luck ed.

It is usually 10 feet of depth per color,Ed. But you have to feel it out , when you feel the bottom just reel up a bit and try to remember where you were at with the line, after some practice you'll get the hang of it. Try a tube and worm rig also, works weell for me and you'll have less hang ups. I use the rubber Power bait worms and do just as well as with real worms. How do you like the new rod?

You better bring a whole bunch of replacements bodies, this is a tough time of season to use a rig like the 9'rs. You can literally loose all your shad bodies at once should a school of blues find it.
You might be better off finding an umbrella rig that uses the tubes on hooks (Snug Harbor Marina) sells them. The blues can not ruin these. They typically will generate the same amount of strikes. |
wife's sick today, no fishing today.dave, I haven't goten out there yet to use it. little ed go's back to school in a week or two and then it's playtime ,fish, fish, fish. I'm going out friday, the rod looks great, I put a 330gti penn w/ leadcore on it. I'll email you some pics fri nite if we hit'm. thanks ed.

179, I got one with red tubes, I'm puting it in my box. looking at it it's got wire not mono leads. the replacement shad kit's about 10 bucks. and the 9er's rig got a 6 inch shad with mono(crimped on) I'll have to replace that shad with one that has wire. thanks ed

FF61 I use the 9er's alot with a Penn 330GTI and 45# leadcore. I get about 5' in depth with each color out in the water. So if fishing say 15-20 water I run 21/2 to 3 colors to keep the rig near but not on the bottom. As 179 said if the blues are around I will not fish the rig but if say out to a spot like devilsbridge at Gayhead with 30' of water or more if the blues are on top I will start 50 yards out from them and get the rig down on the bottom before getting to the blues and this will almost allways get a few nice bass in the boat. Some say you don't get big fish with them but I have many fish over 30# some times two at a time on the rig. Last night was the best fish yet on it 51" and in the high fourtys for sure. Be sure to use a good 5' to 8' mono leader up to 80# with GOOD swivels. Best of luck.

FF61 Replacement shad - call Eric @ 9er's Lures 508/822-9650
Replacements are cheaper through them Eric does a great job at getting them right out. We've gotten over 150 bass on 9er rigs this year. If they'ree not hang up on the bottom you're not deep enough. |
