How much does it weigh????
Fished Kennebunkport recently and landed a 42" striper with a 31" girth from the beach.Released the fish wondering what it weighed .It was the fattest striper I've ever encountered! Any thoughts on weight?????
|
Use the formula :)
y + z = 34XlengthXgirth divided by x - z. This is usually how I calculate the weight of my fish....I haven't caught a fish under 50 pounds yet. :D ...there is a formula for determing the weight by certain measurements, I for one...don't buy it. It may be close...but there are other variables to consider. Buy a scale is my best guess....sorry, no pun intended. |
how much does it weigh????
So I can tell evryone it was 50lbs ????????
|
:D .... you can tell them anything you want. That's the best thing about fishing alone...without a scale.
honestly, my guess - with the minimal amount of information....(the girth is above average for my area with that length)......so 33-36lbs. would be my uneducated guess. Tell everyone 35..........:D |
50#s it is ! nice fish ! a fish of a life time ! maybe you should have mounted that 50 .

........Oh you mean Mount it ON THE WALL.....I get it...:D |
I think just a drink is appropriate ( they dont know each other very well )
|
length x girth x girth / 800
|
So bloocrab is correct it's over 50 based on the formula. 42*31*31= 40362/800= 50.452 pounds.....congrats on a great fish whether he went 50 or not.

Try this.

I've caught 42 inch fish before....none ever reached 40#s, nevermind 50. The last 42 inch fish I caught ran 28#s  .....so who knows!! Then again, I use bait made by ATKINS, so my fish are always dieting. ;) Vman, - - I'm sure you've picked up a 45# plate :musc: and placed it on a weight-lifting bar....did it feel the same? After all, you removed the fish from the water right?....to measure it's Girth? Best thing, live and learn....if weight concerns you, buy a scale TODAY...obviously size matters because you carry a tape measure....any internet hero will tell, size doesn't matter...it's all about how much she weighs. Right Heroes? :D - |
I'm betting your girth measurement is off.
No 42" striped bass is ever going to weigh 50#. |
I agree - I've had 42 inch fish that struggled to make 20 pounds and rarely have I seen a huge 42 break 30. Measurement must be off somewhere - nice catch though.

this fish was 45 inches and weighed 32 1/2 lbs... it had a pretty nice gut on him. your fish fish probably weighed in the high 30's
|
NIB recently had a 42" go 36 lbs. had 2 lobsters in it's sowbelly. And it had a huge head to go with her big belly, I can't imagine where 14 more pounds would go???
That 31" girth has me wondering if you may have been a bit off. That's a big gut to be 31" on a 42" long fish. But if it indeed was a 50, then congrats. |
"it had a pretty nice gut on him. "
The fish was pretty chunky too :D :D :D :smash: Nice fish papa eben... hadnt seen the pic yet.... |

He actually blew that fish out of glass, he didnt really catch one :D

Figure 26 to 33 pounds. really fat , go for the high end. a skinny racer , go for the low end.
BTW , by Maine standards , that's an outstanding fish. Congratulations. |
