Tuna
Whats the scoop on Tuna? Do you need a permit to keep one in the bay? If so , how much is it, and where can I get one?
 |
www.nmfs/permits
You need the permit to keep a tuna no matter where you're fishing on the east coast. |
thanks Mike.

Tuna fishing
I believe the new regs (established at the federal level) are:
1 school tuna per boat per day 1 giant tuna per boat per season Unless that has changed since I last looked. Also, I'm going to start school tuna fishing this week. Anyone had any luck yet? I know there's not been as many bunker around as last year. What's the scoop guys? |
Sweets, Just changed again, now its 2 fish per boat per day over 27 inches, until sometime around Sept. 20th. That;s only for BFT, other species are different.

new regs
Mako! Good news! I'm going on Sunday with a friend, it would be nice to put 2 in the box (if we can find them). Any report on the bite?
Thanks. |
whats the over/under?

Cool, I'd like to get a couple as well. I'm trying out between the Merrimack and Cape ann.
|
2 fish per day over 27" but under 73" per boat with permit.
|
Sweets,
The fish must be 27 inches or larger, but not over 73 inches. I've been getting good reports from the area of Jenny's horn to the acid barge, to the claw and east to the dump. |
Anything new on the Tuna Bite in the bay? Does anyone know if the stick boats are still cruising around following the spotter planes. I plan to get out this weekend. any news on Giants, or school Bluefin would be greatly appreciated.

o fer tuna today
Went out this morning from Boston Harbor to east of the NW corner. Saw nothing but an ocean sunfish and a shark fin as big as a man's head.

tuna
The word I'm getting is that ever since hurricanes Bonnie and Charlie, there've been very few school bft around. Don't know when (or if) it's going to pick-up again. :af:

Since I cannot even land a keeper striper, the likelihood of getting a tuna from shore is an impossibility.
But regardless of this, if I was to land a tuna from shore, do I need a permit? Also, are Bonito and False Albacores a permit fish? Or can those little tuniod species be kept without a permit? Again, I doubt I can land any of these fish, but if I do I want the necessary permits. -IWK |
nothing from minots to the dump to the b-bouy to salem today:(
all the bluefish you could want though. mike |
