What is your favorite spin set up for 4-6oz plugs?

65 lb whiplash to a spro swivel then 40 or 50 lb flouro to a speedclip

love the above mentioned rod with the 704z

4-6 oz plugs??????????? Man, I do have alot to learn!!!!!

Slip, did they change the SB series to another series?

SB = the honey colored fiberglass
BSB = Black color

1213M / 7000c3CT abu / 30# yo-zuri hybrid / 50# or 60# fluoro leader

Don't use plugs that big Dave. 3.5 oz. tops.

As long as 4 is the minimum , a rod built on the Allstar 1209 is good. It won't toss less than 4 but will hamnmer 4 to 6 OZ. Probably not good for Pencil Poppers but good for everythimng else especially jigs.

I suppose I'd go with the Biggest Penn Z or the Penn 8500 SS. Lots of guys use the Nautils for that heavy stuff but they are always replacing them so I guess a big Penn. I guess Whiplash or power Pro are the most popular braids for spinners now.

I personally would never use a spinner for such heavy work. I'd go with a conventional with a Abu BG 7000CL and 50 LB Cortland spectron....In fact , that's what I use about 90% of the time.

Geez I'd pop all the screws outta my shoulder if I started ch#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&g plugs that big!!!

XSRA 1322 (i prefer one piece but they make it in 1or 2 piece)
with stl8000FA with 30 or 50# PP braid and sic guides.
( I would not go above 6 with it though)

dont forget the Breakaway Casting Cannon with those large balistics....

If you are talking max 4 OZ , forget the 1209. I thought you wanted Min 4 and up to 6?????

Saltheart,i throw a St croix ss1 10m2 11' with a penn 6500 for my larger plugs[handles up to 4oz]but it weighs close to 4 lbs combined ,and was hoping to find something lighter that would also handle 5oz. Am looking for all the input i can get.Thanks:)

YA Spence it's a little under 4 with the 6500 and feels more like 40 after 4 hrs of fishing.:)Plus i got shoulder problems.:(

I have an Allstar 1088 that is set up spinning and it can throw up to 6oz if it has to. No problem with 4oz. It is not the best with the lighter stuff but is ok with a 1.5 oz polaris popper. I have thrown the large storm shads with it as well as the giant jointed pikies. It is light and depending on the reel that you use it can keep the entire outfit pretty light. I use a penn 706Z with it and it balances well.

That rod must weigh a ton...

I've got both the 1088 and 1208 all star. They are really stiff blanks and do well, although I've never had either over 4. 3-1/2 ounces and you can really wale on it.

I throw it with the 1322 and it weights about 4.3 oz...it is a big plug.

I throw up to 5 with a 704z , 65#PP, on a 10 ft. Tica. Lots of tape on the digit. If I gonna go bigger it's a 525 mag or Squidder on a 10 ft. Lami or Uglistik. Personally I think heavy offerings require conventional gear.
