Chumming from shore
 

I've never done it before.Has anybody here had success doing so?

I have a ton of clam bellies left over after making stuffies and really can't see just tossing them in the garbage.

Does chumming from shore work and how should I prepare the chum?

I have a favorite tidal salt pond I like to fish and would like to try some chum there on an outgoing flow.

chumming works great and brings the fish to You.
when I heathen fish. I get a 5 gallon pail and mix sand and seaweed and then mash up herring or what ever You want in it.
make the chum finer than Ya chunks and then toss out the chum with the sand and mix You made up. the chum will disperse better

when chunking the canal pogies mashed up fine works good to. and yes clams and squid work great to.

I chummed one night with pogies and fished chunks while I eel fished down the beach....

Ten minutes later, the bait rod was gone and there were drag marks from the spike down to the water line...:smash: :smash:

Washed up peanuts make good chum - mash em up....

I always chum and have good success in the spots I fish. I wont chum if I am on a beach, but some rips I fish have eddies the whirlpool the chunks and hold them around the area. Fluke,Sea Bass come in as well as all kinds of critters. Nighttime chumming can bring in the dogs as well blues. I always find some of the chum in the keepers belly. I chunk most of the time.

if you want to get the chum out from the shore , use a rianna stick. it's kinda like a lacross stick. get a broom handle or the like and attach a liter soda bottle with the top cut off and fling away! you can get some good distance, be sure to rinse or it will smell like hell.

:hihi: It happened to me once. I was chumming and chunking herrings two years ago at Rockport, MA. I left my rod unattended on the pole. The bass took it into the water and I had to use my another rod to make another cast. I coincidely hooked my rod's line and found a keeper bass... And it was my first lesson and it was never to leave my rod unattended. I was 18 years old newbie.

you can leave your rod unattended, just leave the drag all the way down, then when u hear it buzing set it and bring em in.

One problem, man, is that I am deaf. So I had to use my eyes all the time.
