Blue Shark at Shaws?

Ive always heard that blue shark is useless for the table and i saw it at shaws the other day. It was 5.99 a pound. HAs anyone ever eaten it or heard of it being sold at a grocery store? If they are going to sell useless shark they should sell dogfish, it would help us out a bit.

Dogfish would not sell.....they are everywhere as you know! :D

Dog fish is exported/sold to Europe by Ship hold load they eat it as fish-n-chips.There was a big write up in the Boston Globe last year.

I wish they'ed eat more of the scurvy bastards:D

I'm all for harvesting bluefish and dogfish, but let's be reasonable, we don't want to upset the delicate ecosystem that we have already upset further with all that commercial overfishing...

I always wondered why blue sharks were inedible and finally found out the reason why on a shark show on the Discovery channel. It seems unlike other sharks, these sharks have the nasty habit of secreting urine through their skin. :yak6:

So what are you tellin me...Depends are out of the question:laughs:
Sounds like a personal problem.

i believe all sharks urinate thru their skin..(like most fish).. you need to bleed them and ice immediately if planning on eating

or the flesh goes bad.. because of the ammonia in the urine..

flows back into the meat.

dogfish is also known as cape shark. i have heard of a cape shark chowder recipe which originated in cape cod. guess its not bad that way..

I've had blue sharK. the mates on a trip to Cashes ledge caught one about 7 foot long. They bled it by cutting around the tail, washed it in the salt water and gave a few steaks to everyone on board and the steaks were put on ice. It was like swordfish, it was good.

Big brown sharks on the cape and island ,it also was like sword fish :)
I have had it several times over the years. just hard as hell to steak it ..lol
