suggestions for saltmarsh
 

Tonite I stopped on the way home and checked out a flooded marsh/river. There was bait swirling around and a slightly more than occasional large splash as something larger went after the baitfish.

none of the ferocity that I have seen in the past with bait running away in a frenzy.

What can I toss out there tomorrow night to try and entice the fish onto my hook?

I am going to try some chunks of mackerel on one pole while I throw everything I have to see if I can get anything.

bomberrrrrs, cocohoe minnows, yozuri minnows, sinking decievers tied to a casting egg... anything that matches the size and color of the baitfish...

Depends on the size of the bait, but I like a pearl or alewive color slug-0 or Fin-s. If the bait is bigger, baby herring or peanut bunker throw the 7" Fin-s, with short erratic twitches and you are sure to hook up.

try a rattle trap, bigger the better, always remember....bass love rattles.

Might want to start off with some metal, a 1 ounce kastmaster or similar. They could be snapper blues, we've had a ton of them in the estuaries down here...

I do A LOT of salt marsh and pond fishing.Fishing the mouth at the top of the outgoing can be fantastic.

Number one thing I throw is a Kastmaster.Bombers and the like work well too.I've also discovered this year sm. to med. needlefish work well.

When the fish are on,a lot of different plugs work.I like to wade out and cast cross current and let the current impart
some action to the plug while reeling in slowly.

Red-gills work really well in estuary currents as well.

Im a fan of the 4" pearl wildeyes whenever I am fishing in the estuaries.

I've been doing business with a small zara spook and a small yozuri hydro popper. Fun top water action on light gear---good way to spend the lunch break.

me too....it's almost cheatin they way the fish hammer them....mostly I fish the rivers with the storms in the spring though

try a popper with alot of action and silver deadly #^&#^&#^&#^&s and olive colored mambo minnows these imitate sand eels and small bait fish you find in a marsh don't be scared to go a little light on your tackle think small marshes/saltponds are also a good place for the fly rod try small clousers and sandeel patterns. try the outflow of creeks at a falling tide this flushes baitfish out with the tide and stripers and blues will be there to feed. try the spot where the marsh/saltpond meet open sea incoming or outgoing tides tons of bait fish are getting swept in/out and the stripers and blues will be there.
