Dead Squirrels
Whats up with all the dead squirrels all over the highways/ there friggin everywhere. I counted 43 from exit 21 to exit 16 on 195? Bumper crop??
Funny!:laughs: Yeah, they are everywhere! I almost nailed 3 today! They are working hard laying in their winter supply....thats why they are so active all of a sudden!:D
Ya right before the jamestown bridge heading torwards newport there is over 20 tha didnt make it.
Belive it or not, that's how the state wildlife bioligists estimate squirrel populations, by counting the road kill. Sounds like we had a bumper crop this year!
I noticed the same 3rd week of August.
I wonder if this is a sign of a very cold winter coming. Squirrels know something we don't?  |
i counted about 50 from rt 3 exit 13 to exit 32 on 93 (my house) there were about 10 even before i hit the highway
I haven't seen many down here at all but there are a bunch of skunks down here i forget the name of the road buti counted about 16 of them.. not squished..still fluffy.
I noticed the same thing the other day.... never seen so many flat squirells!
:( I just added one to the total today on 495:(
felt bad, but I'm not getting in an accident trying to avoid a squirrel. |
i nearly hit a barrier the other nite because of dodging a squirrel
This is weird, I noticed this the other day too. They have been all ove rthe roads, live and dead. I agree with BF, most of the ones I see running on the road have acorns. This is just a guess, but do you think that the latest high winds we have had knocked a lot of nuts and acorns from the trees and onto the road so teh squirrles are gathering the fallen nuts?
yeah! i've never seen so many flat squirrels, sent one to its maker on 95 yesterday. maybe all the activity is a sign of a hard winter/:confused: that or they all just saw some daredevil movie.
Efin varmits! They dug the hell out of my garden and lawn this summer. Some lame brain neighbor of mine is feeding them peanuts and I find them all over my yard. So I decided to "relocate" them to a nicer neighborhood with my have-a-heart trap, preferably near a highway far far away. Yes I know it illegal but if the state can't and won't control the pest problem, I will! Spend to much time, money and energy in my garden to watch it get destroyed by varmits. If anyone doesn't like it, call PETA:smash:

I think I saw a flat squirrel. The reason I think it was flat is,... there was another squirrel on top of it trying to pump it back up.:laughs:
From what I understand every ten years theres a bumper population of them. theres a terrorial battle over trees n food ect.
Had some in the corps, taste just like chicken:drool: |
lot up here near boston as well..early spring was the same way
with racoons on route 6 and route 3. i also saw what had to be the largest racoon i have ever seen.. it definately left a mark on what ever hit that.. |
i squirell proffed my buddies house last week. I would pass atleast a dozen in about a mile every day. There definatly are a lot more than usual. I have noticed that there are fewer acorns than the past couple years, they might be a bit more active looking for them this year.
I heard a report on this that attributed the high numbers to an influx in the population of young ones that are inexperienced in dealing with cars on the roadways...

Squirrels
We had a baby squirrel cough on top of one pilings from 10:00am
until 6:15 pm. Everytime someone would walk down the dock it would move to the otherside of the piling. One little guy come walking down the dock and spotted him and called back to his dad and said look at the squirrel, and the dad come walking over to look, and the squirrel came around the piling again and halfway down toward the boy. The boy let out a Death Scream that scared the little squirrel, that it came down the piling and accross the dock to the parkinglot. The poor thing went back into the woods and probably had a heart attack. |
