Fish Identification?
I was coming back from B.I. last evening when I see a dorsal fin moving in the water, very slowly. I eased the boat up to it and it didn't run. It was a large fish I am guessing 200lbs, it was sought of a round shape, had no tail fin, one fin on the top, two under it's belly. It was dark gray with white spots, skin was hard (I actually touched it). The fish seemed to be just playing on the surface. Really cool!

Mulla Mulla - aka Ocean Sunfish. Dorsal Fin slowly swinging from side to side. Looked like a shark at first from the distance...
Eats Plankton and some algae I think... Won't go after your baits, tried it before I knew better ;) |
yep! sunfish! no doubt. These tail-less things bob all around off shore. They get pretty big too. One time I had one bumb into the boat while chumming way offshore. I grabed on to his fin, shook it a bit and he did not do much. You have to be wondering what God was thinking when he created this thing. He sort of looks kind of helpless.
