Raider Ronnie 10-05-2004 07:21 PM

got any idea how many ounces they are?
Are they filled with lead?

macojoe 10-05-2004 07:23 PM

Yes filled with lead!! The new ones i did today are 20 oz (10) and I have a few a little bit havier, and I have about 5 or 6 that are 17 oz

Raider Ronnie 10-05-2004 07:26 PM

You got an idea on the cost to make per jig ?

macojoe 10-05-2004 07:32 PM

well I got the 3/4 Alumin pipe for free from the dump 2 pieces about 12 feet in all

the lead I collect from everyone I no!! But it can be had for $7 for 10 # at your local plumping supply.

8/0 trebiles .95 each (cheaper in bulk I am sure)

Split rings .25 each ( again cheaper in Bulk I am sure)

Gas, and your time.

Since I got most stuff free its woth it for me!! And alummin pipe don't rust!!

riverrat2 10-05-2004 07:38 PM

Aluminum and lead, I am probably off base but wouldn't these two substances effect the water in some way?

macojoe 10-05-2004 07:41 PM

yea they get a hook in the mouth and they go in my fry pan!! :laughs:

I have been using them for 5 years now

riverrat2 10-05-2004 07:45 PM

What I meant was doesn't the lead and aluminum some how effect the water? I am not saying that this is something that is your falt there is a ton of terminal tackle made with lead.

If the fish is hooked, it's time is up anyway!!!
only hrs till it's filled anyway

Vectorfisher 10-05-2004 08:21 PM

Now these fish are in pretty deep water, is it color that attracts them to strike or is it the sound?? If it is sound like I presume wouldnt a jig that bends in half like a broken back rebel make all kinds of noise attracting more fish? Just thinking out loud, Maco I could use a few of them;)

bud8fan 10-05-2004 08:22 PM

Macojoe,

PURPLE!!
Just ask the Freak!
The Haddock love the color purple too!!

If you can, add some krystal flash to them also.....

macojoe 10-05-2004 08:30 PM

I have to start looking for more pipe soon!! I am running out. I have a friend that has some Stainless pipe for me :D

The first ones I ever made were made with crome pipe and they rust up pretty good but they last for a while. I keep cleaning them up then spray with clear coat.

Then I started keeping them in a bucket of salt water till i got home then washed with warm water and soap. That helped alot!!

thefishingfreak 10-05-2004 08:33 PM

bluerple, kristal flash, teasers.:humpty: :humpty:

macojoe 10-05-2004 08:48 PM

going to look for purple tomorrow!!

Thanks guys!!

BigBo 10-05-2004 10:04 PM

MJ, I'll give ya a call tomorrow.;)

tynan19 10-05-2004 10:16 PM

2 1/2 inch purple shrimp worked well for my pool winning cod.

Christian 10-06-2004 06:20 AM

purple bucktails

ProfessorM 10-06-2004 12:30 PM

What size diameter and the length of pipe. I work on Cape as a machinist in the oceanographic industry and have access to stainless. I think stainless would be the way to go because you can polish it up shinny. I would be interested in making some. Drop me a P M and maybe we can do a little trade if I can get what you are looking for and I get some info. P.M.

I'm GONNA HOE one of those JIG's OFF ya

macojoe 10-06-2004 05:16 PM

Try it Buster!!! :laughs:

Canalratt1 10-06-2004 07:37 PM

MJ got the same jigs! Teasers use white, green, blue or purple bucktail. These tipped with a touch of bait = Haddock!

Gloucester2 10-07-2004 02:40 PM

Only a Googan puts bait on a jig or teaser :D

Iwannakeeper 10-07-2004 02:55 PM

Red was the common thread amongst the tackleshops I consulted. Everyting from buck-tails to rubber shrimp. Some votes for white, but mostly in red.

May have to look for some blurple with flash.

That's why Ben caught a big haddock last trip!

maddog2020 10-08-2004 11:16 AM

Nice jigs ya made there MJ. :)

Light doesn't penetrate 250' below the surface does it? How can the fish "see" the color ...... LOL.

I've always been told its the noise the lure makes - clicking & clanking down there that gets the fishes attention.

Jigs gotta HIT the bottom or ya may be wasting your time. ;)

Notaro 10-10-2004 02:37 PM

ray, thats why they have a new green marine lumiscent light for the deepwater...;)
