Block Island question
 

Never been to BI before, but I'm going to spend some time with Eben there in a bit. I know what you're thinking, god help me :gf:

From all the pics people have been posting it looks like a good mix of sand and rocks. I was going to bring 2 rods, a 1204 spinner for lighter stuff and a heavier conventional rod for eels and bigger plugs.

I'm really loving the 1204 recently, will it do fine on the Island, or should I just take two heavier rods? thanks - spence

I went around a bend on the south side of Block one fall morning at sunrise to see my fishing partner battling a "HUGE" striper - he had a 10ft Lami and it was bent waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy over....
He had the thing in close and you could see it going from rock-to-rock...

He lost the fish due to hook failure....Gotta love those Mustads

Bring a lite rod too. I've got some nice bonitas in the channel in Oct. For most of your fishing though you're gonna be using the big sticks. I'll be there from Oct 14 to Nov 14 on and off. Good luck.

I had this same inquiry but figured you'd want stout gear. I've only fished the island from a boat, using a 6.6 rod and 15 lb test mono, with a 40 lb shocker.

Chip are the albies in the channel any less finicky?

Why wouldnt the 1204 work for ya? That rod has Uber-Backbone. Yeah, 1204 should do ya fine.

I've seen guys I know get them using a deadly #^&#^&#^&#^& or needle eel just like me and get 3 to my none. I've also seen the fly guys score multiple hook ups when I've been using metal and catching none. Yes they can be and other days they're not. It's pretty cool there because they'll come up right to your feet hitting the minnows or sand eels so fast that all you see are green flashes. They are literally inches away from you. This summer a lot of the guys were getting them on sluggos too.

i brought two rods last week, 1201M spinner and a heavy 9' spinner. they even felt a bit "light" at times..... :eek:

It's got more than you would think, but I wouldn't call it uber. I'll probably take the 1213m for the big plugs at night...

I dont think the surf will be that big- that is unless something changes, BI Sound is a millpond right now-

Think light plug/eel bag yur gonna do some serious walking (a lot of it) so stay light. I brought two rods a 10' spinner which I used every day, & a 10.5' heavy conventional that I never used, but then again I was there for only a couple of days.
I wish I had more time to fish out there.
Bring your camera there's lot's to shoot!

I used my 1204 there for a little while, no problems.

that sounds great! I dont want to fish a millpond, but thats waht it is like right now. Flat as glaaaasss

Habs needles (blurple, olive, hell, bring 'em all)

Darters - super strike, beachmaster if you got the guts to ding 'em on the rocks

Swimmers (pick your fav)

Rubba.

Korkers and bring spare spikes and washers.

Water-tight rain top + belt (hello Aquaskinz)

Neoprene waders (breathables will get ripped on the rocks)

Flashlight.

Rope for fish.

Pack light, you be humping. Don't make the same mistake I did years ago and bring two plug bags. You'll get dumped off a rock by a wave and lose one. :wall:

Not if you know where to look. 25 fish this morning. 25% 32" and up. On the S Coast of RI. The rest averaged 27"
