Ruined for Life by tuna

Had the opportunity Friday to go out with Capt. Frank Pitten of Intensity Charters out of Scituate/ Chatham tuna fishing for the first time. I am now ruined for life. Don't know why people say tuna fishin is so hard cause he sure made it look easy. We started at 9 am and I was in the chair fightin my first BFT tuna before I normally even have my mornin coffee at 9:30. Was incredible.
We had 8 come up and we hooked 5 between 50 and 150 lbs. I got to keep the first one (between 50/75 lbs) thinkin we wouldn't get anymore, but then we got the other 4, all tagged and released.
Bass fishin will never seem the same again. To see 200 lb mono dumpin off a reel the size of a truck battery like it does is mind boggling. I checked with him sunday and saturday they hooked 12 out of 17 between 40lbs and 150lbs. Gentleman is mighty good at what he does. If anyone wants more info, drop me a line and I can hook you up with his info/ phone number for Intensity Charters.

Strider 10-11-2004 02:13 PM

Nice Mike, where did the 30 packs go;)

riverrat2 10-11-2004 02:47 PM

Haha I guess tuna did ruin you cause you(or me) couldn't catch a bass all weekend. While every jersey goog was cleaning up.

They are fun to catch

t.orlando 10-11-2004 03:35 PM

Nice fishy Mike.

Fun isn't it. Wait till ya tie into a 7 or 800 #er. Giants can dump a 130 international in a very short time it is a--holes and elbows getting the rest of the lines into the boat. Then the fight is on. :D

nice

If you think that is exciting - try sight casting to them using a spinning rod with 25-30 lb mono. :D Your arms just about fall off.

Tuna ANY way you look at them are exciting to fish for. :)

You guys were trolling for them, or were you live lining some Bluefish?

Nice fish fishsmith!

I think BFT grilled is pretty good eating as well. :)

Beautiful Fish.

fishsmith 10-12-2004 07:39 AM

maddog, the only credit I can take for that fish is posting the picture. thats redlites fish. The closest I've come to landing a tuna is casting at breaking fish, or landing mackerel on a sabiki rig.

Great job Mike, looks like you had a good time!!

Mr. Sandman 10-12-2004 08:52 AM

I agree it is really something to gauge the power and speed of those fish when you see the line screaming off the spool with drag so tight you can't pull it off.
My only wish would be able to catch them from the surf.:D

Frank Pitten 10-12-2004 09:40 AM

Thanks for the kind words Mike. I enjoyed having you on the boat. Maybe the weather will break and we will do it again before they leave. I am looking forward to fishing the Cape surf with you. Please call when you are ready to head down and sling some eels.........Frank

Back Beach 10-12-2004 01:19 PM

You were ruined long before the tuna trip, my man. Nice catch.

RIROCKHOUND 10-12-2004 01:48 PM

I had a short bout of that myself, unfortunetly given time and money and obligations I only got a handful of trips in... didnt do much over 30lbs but they were tasty.... still the off chance of an end of the month edge trip

The first days after a tuna trip I have to make myself go to the beach; until I get there and realize I love that equally..

and mike.,....
watch out for UFO's.... :D
