ayc without sealer..that brown you see is pitch coming through the acrylic paint, bubbleing up under the clear coat...that plug was all yellow.

Striperknight 10-16-2004 05:28 PM

nice grain

capesams 10-16-2004 06:41 PM

about a month..I keep it hung over the sealer can now..alittle reminder.

UserRemoved1 10-16-2004 07:00 PM

Steve I've never ever sealed any of my cedar stuff and never seen that happen yet. not once. Even on plugs that hang outside on the boat in direct sun...wierd stuff.. I like the colors though :D

capesams 10-16-2004 09:59 PM

I've got a few more hangin downstairs thats doing the same thing,,very sappy ayc...but I did note one thing,,,it all came out of a 4x4 that was very knotty...you could see the dark grain in the wood........all these years of butchering wood I should have known better not to use it:smash:

bassmaster 10-16-2004 10:13 PM

I got a few that are yellow and some other plugs along with a few other builders plugs that have done that

JHABS 10-17-2004 05:41 PM

Seal EVERYTHING its only a LITTLE MORE TIME, And in Fact PLUG WILL LAST LONGER........What has happened is the Natural Oils from plug has come out and bled through the Water Base PAINT ............... Sealing properly will STOP this................

rocketman 10-17-2004 09:52 PM

You have to admit it's kind of pretty.

ThrowingTimber 10-18-2004 04:54 PM

CS, the ones where the pitch came through, did you use an oil based primer? Just asking so I know

I'll hang mine off a bass as a reminder if I ever get one :humpty: :smokin:

capesams 10-18-2004 05:07 PM

those ones that are doing that I used BIN I beleive,,that's when I didn't know any better:smash: I could strip them down, but I leave them hanging for something to get a chuckle out of. Live an learn as they say.

bassmaster 10-18-2004 09:13 PM

what should I seal my plugs with?
Or rather what do Ya use
thanks.
I got some oil base in the cave some where

Jigman 10-18-2004 09:34 PM

boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits mix. 60% linseed/40% spirits. Dip the plug for 30 seconds (even AYC), let drip, then wipe off excess. Let dry for several days, then prime. Dispose of rags carefully (read the warnings on the linseed can) or you'll end up burning down the cave

Thanks CS. I dont use the bin stuff I use an oil base, takes some time to dry I usually do 2-3 coats, sand after each coat, havent been sealing my ayc, but will take the time to do so. Thanks for the heads up on the bins :btu:
