Blackfish

FIrst i chummed up the water a bit:yak: .Then i got my first blackfish ever, then a lil more:yak: . ANother nice fish, and:yak: . It was a beautiful morning besides the fact i coulda used a massive dose of dramamine. It was sick, soon as the crab hit bottom we either had a fish on , or were robbed of the bait. We must have caught at least 40 fish, biggest was 12lbs, got our limit in a couple hours.:D Cant wait to get back out , but with some dramamine so i dont :yak: , every 20 minutes. Cant wait to get back out again later this week for some more blackfish. After work, back on the rocks in gansett to slay some cows:D . No :yak4: :yak6:  on the rocks:laughs: .

Chef, have you done any togging from shore?

cheferson 11-07-2004 10:47 PM

I tried this spring twice and i dont wanna talk about it.:smash: :( Lost a rig about every other cast. Much easier from a boat.

I would be interested in doing some togging sometime chef. What type of setup would I need?

I've seen many fishermen on the tip of the Scusset Beach Jetty, facing the East End of the Canal "Tog" fishing at sunrise with green crabs for bait. They do well. However it looks dangerous. That jetty is very dangerous when it is dark out or when it is damp. "Togs" like the rocky structure there.

Stout :p

I use a very stiff 7-1/2' graphite rod and convetional reel. If you have to cast far, I'd use the rod I throw bait on but usually we're fishing from the rocks almost straight down. Doesn't need to be fancy, but you want something capable of lifting a blackfish out of the rocks very quickly.

Thanks spence I think I have a setup I could use..have you done any togging from shore?

Yea, the trick is to find a productive spot since you can't really move around like in a boat. We have some rocks just offshore we row out to with access to deep rocky water...they always hold fish unless the surf is really heavy, but then we can't row out anyway ;)
