Inspired by Jigman
 

The swimmers that Jigman posted a while ago got me thinking about trying something like that out. This guy is 6" long.
#1 Mustad SW hooks. NJT #1 Danny style lip. Swims nice...
Got to do a bunch of these over the next few months.

You shouldn't post any pics of that one! That plug is gonna be a killer and now everyone has seen it! Nothin' like having a plug that no one else has an the fish be likin' it when everyone else is scratching thier heads!:D :laughs: :laughs:

That is a great lookin plug SH.:btu: The paint makes it look 50's style.:D

I been using screws. Lathe/chuck/etc. are on the Christmas List...

Years ago locations were not the only secret .
The cuttyhunk guides and those in the know
would never tell what worked !!!
Today what works is a internet shared knowlege

A great story for someone to write is how the
guides and hiliners caught stripers yrs ago.

Now the secrets will be when and how to work the plugs, forcing all to learn on their own.

Subsurface, about 12" or so, unless it's brought in at a real snails pace. I need to play with a bit of weight in the back end of the front section. It looks/feels like it swims with a bit of a kink in it. Want to try to smooth that out a bit.

Sounds like the action is a little different than on the ones I do. Probably cause the size, head slope and lip are different. Not that that is a bad thing. Cool to be able to take a design and modifiy it into your own thing :)

I'll send you one so we can compare. I swam the pliug again today and I realized is that the front section is actually quite bouyant. The back end of the rear section, where the hook and screww are, sinks. So I think I need to switch the hook size or go to a single back there. I may try a trick I use in my fly tying when I tie a neutrally buoyant fly. I do that by wrapping a thin strip of foam along the shank of the hook. I may be able to tune out the weight of the hook and the screw that way. When I try the single bucktail hook, the bucktail I tie on will be from the butt section of the tail, where the hair is more hollow and bouyant.

You're right. This is where the fun really is. There's so much room for creativity and very personla solutions.

The tail section on mine sink too. I've also seen that on a number of commercial jointed plugs: tail section sits down in the water. Seems to work fine so I have not messed with it any.
