mounting a brakeaway casting cannon
 

i was looking at the breakaway casting cannon do you just super glue or tape this device near or on the reel seat

I would say zip ties or small screw on pipe clamps.
I think it comes with fasteners.
superglue? no way.

isnt it awkward to get the line onto it?
anyone have some photos of how to use it?

I was thinking of changing to a 20' section of higher test line to use as a casting leader. I currently have 15# lins on the spool. would that make it better chance to not snap off a lure during a cast?

I would not use hose clamps... thats a recipee for a nasty cut.

electrical tape works fine. That is how I had mine mounted. Don't use it anymore. Cast just as well with finger protector. (cut a finger from a chemical glove)

i won't throw braid with anything over 2 ounces without my cannon anymore...electrical tape works fine...

SWE sells this little fake leather finger guard that works pretty well for large plugs. I wouldn't want to have the thing hanging off my rod...

Sounds painful. Not something I'd want to mount, personally.

I have used electrical tape to hold one on and it worked well.

Now I wrap a piece of waterproof medical tape on my finger. The tape is made by J&J and can be found at any CVS.

I dunno bout you guys but the last thing I want to do is add weight to my rod..4 hrs or more tossin makes my rod feel heavy?????

At BI I saw slipknot casting with one. He likes it and has it taped on his rod with black electrical tape.
It looks awkward to cast with but he says you get use to it fast. I may try it next season but I like the tape on my finger.I tape my finger with waterproof medical tape.
Braid with a 3oz plug will cut thru wet skin like a hot razor knife thru butter.:eek:

its too small for me to mount !

I used to think the same thing until I switched to fireline. I think it's not as thin as powerpro and even my computer geek hands don't get cut very often.

For 3 ounces and up it does chafe though. Perhaps I could lay into the cast more if I used the guard.

I got 65# PP on my reel, and I do go with the tape when i start tossin the heavy stuff. I am not a gadget guy. I like it simple.. not looking to add in steps. Looking at that thing, I see the point to it but I would feel like Nomar G. every cast, having to step outta the box and #^&#^&#^&#^& around with the ting...The more your in the water, the betta chance ya got-no?

I use water-proof tape on my finger as well. It's the best thing I have found yet, although I haven't tried one of those canons either. I love braid but it does rip-up my finger pretty nasty without the tape.

I taped mine on like Sandman said.
I didn't like using tape especially when it would get caught on the line and try to go thru the guides and sometimes would snap off my jig.
65 lb whiplash and a 4-5 oz jig with wet fingers will cut you after a short time. I use the cannon and have no problem laying the line on it, it is no harder than using a bailless spinning reel. I do it without looking at it. It adds virtually no weight to the rod. I can lay into a cast with no worries.
Great product. I guess it isn't for everyone. BM tossed his in the canal, he gave up on it too soon.

i fish in the canal where distance matters i also use a spinning reel and with the casting cannon you get a cleaner line release and you can lay into the cast more it realy helps with launching that 3+oz canal specials and darters with out ripping your finger off out in to the ditch with braid

years ago when I was big into archery I used to use a leather pad when shooting.
some folks had leather finger tip gloves.

I suppose a similar device would work as well.
I will have to check out the local sporting good shop tonite.
