How Far Do you Drive to Fish?
I already drive about 45 minutes to get to Westernmost areas of LI but Montauk -well that would be quite far!
I may move next year another few minutes North and it will be further from the fishing grounds. It will make me feel much better if I know there are lots of you out there that travel distances frequently to do what you love. :) |
Drive 20-30 minutes in spring and fall, and about 10-15 minutes during the summer
|
I make the trek to the outer Cape (3.5 hours) just about every weekend from mid May to mid October. Then I drive to SoCo (2 hours) until late November. There are some spots in the Norwich area I fish in April and May, but that only takes me one hour.
|
1 average about 320 t0 360 miles each way to fish the salt usually the Cape or LI. this year i get close to 70 full days in
|
2 1/2 hours to South County. 375 miles to the Adirondacks for my annual freshwater fix... Nothing like a smallie on a little home made popper :-)
|
usually one hr. one way, but more if i'm fishing westerly or the cape.....
|
Cape: 1 Hour 45 minutes
RI: Narragansett: 1 hour 20 minutes Watch Hill: 1 hour 45 minutes This is all average time driving well over the speed limit (life is too short to waste time traveling ) and times don't include unforeseen traffic jams. I usually go back and forth every night. Back of the truck smells so bad lately that it is tough to sleep in. I support the war cause by using so much gas. |
-Cape 1 hour 10 minutes from Boston (Have a second house down there so once I am there the fishing in close by)
-Just did a SoCo trip exactly 1 hour 20 minutes each way yesterday (Narragansett area) from Boston. -Boston and various south shore spots during the summer all w/in 10-30 minutes during the work week. |
about 5-20 minutes...on average 10 min.:)
|
Thirty minutes to an hour depending on where I'm fishing
|
I drive till I hit the ocean.........more to the point I drive 1 1/2 - 2 hours usually to fish the Cape and 30 minutes to fish local salt.;)
|
about 10 min's....to splash time......took longer to get there then it did to catch the fish.
|
Given the far distances travelled, is the most popular lodging:
sleeping in the car, getting a room for the weekend or just fish a few hours and go back home? I've tried them all. Thank goodness for caffeine for those trips back! |
Sleepingbag in back of truck, priced right. P.M.
|
Hour and a half to either the cape or rhodie. When it comes to lodging, its my cramped ranger, cant quite afford to stay in a motel once a weeik, the trips cost enough as it is. IF its real nice out i will crash on the rocks for a little while, i just keep the eels sack 10 feet or so away in case a skunk or coon gets curious, the truck smells bad enough as it is without fresh skunk funk in the cab.

120-150 miles round trip in ri 4-5 nights a week.
more if cape |
I camp or sleep in the jeep. Every once in a while I drive home. But usually I get a few zzs.
|
On average 3 hours. Sometimes more....
|
20 minutes to Plum Island
40 Minutes to Glosta (2-3 times a Week in July/August) 1 hour and 1/2 to The Canal Will be trying RI and father down the Cape in the Future |
anywhere form 5 minutes in the spring for the CT river to 2 hours for SoCo RI to 3.5 hours for the outter cape. sucks living in western mass. still logged 100+ trips this year. gas companies love me.... :smash:
|
30 Minutes to So. County
1.5 hours to Canal |
it depends where Im fishing
ct 15 min to 1 hr Ri 1 to 1.5 hrs canal 2.25 hrs outer beaches 3.5 hrs Li 2 west end to 5 hrs east end ( 3 with ferry ) |
I can get to a handful of locations in about 15 minutes... (from my door to wetting a line).
SoCo is about 45-55 minutes |
I envy those that travel only 15 minutes. It would be great if I could move to LI in a few years but by then the median house will probably cost about $1 Million. So much for the middle class guy! :(
|
2 seconds for sweetwater (can walk out my back door and almost cast in the water - pawcatuck river)
anywhere from 10 - 45 minutes depending on traffic and where in RI I plan to fish. |
same as bart..I definitely am going to move closer to the water..I envy you guys who live 10 minutes..
|
Naragansett = 2 hrs.
Cape = 2.25 hrs. I just started driving far late summer been busy in my place in early summer which includes: 2 mins - Riverside 7 mins - Hanes 20 mins - Bristol / Warren / Barrington. But no luck with 20lbs.:af: :o |
Hmmmm....wading in the cove takes me bout 30 seconds 35 seconds if a car goes by...the canal about 1hr if I drive the speed limit-usually not..and then add on more to get to the cape sands..Rhody-gonna have to wait till I drive down there to fish with a few guys....wink,wink,hint,hint..:hihi:
and I have no problem sackin out for a few in the 4runner, better than takin a chance fallin asleep on the road... |
jbapinoy
How could it possibly take you 2 hours to get from Riverside to 'Gansett? On bike? For me, closest spot, 10 mins. favorite spot, 25 mins. farthest spot, 40 mins. next sping I will have my boat on a slip in wickford, 10 mins from my house, so that will probably change everything. -Zac |
