11'0 20-40lb lure 4-6oz.
 

I bought a tsunami trophy tstss 1102h rated-11'0 20-40lb lure 4-6oz. I have been using my old reel spooled with 30lbs braid last summer which was ok, but didn't have the drag capablility to pull a big fish up or out of heavy structure or current. I was wondering if anybody can give me tip on a decent reel for this set-up? THANX

Spinning. The only problem I have had with spinning is the bail sometimes closes early had I loose my lure.

Sounds like a big Penn SS series with the bail closing ???

Q.D. -- how much money you looking to spend on a reel ???

that does sound like a penn, hold the bail with your pinky and the problem is solved.
I still see the tuna boiling 50 ft away and my lure snapping off because the bail flipped while casting, this was followed by the boat owner to ridicule me "oh were you scared of the tuna".

The diawa emblem Pro is a great reel. runs around 140 bux

Best reel for the money IMHO

The Penn 706 will solve premature bail closure forever---what ya don't have, can't close on you. :D

Daiwa BG reels are workhorses, too.

706Z can't be beat for the $$.

Don't overlook the Shimano Stradic, they are indestructable if you know how to take care of them. I have 4 of them going on 5 :D

the best reel out there is the quatum cabo 60. its ceramic drag, titanium bail, and it has a life time warrenty! And i kno only a few places that carry it. One place to get it is Falmouth Bait and Tackle. I've used it for 1 season now and i love it.

Take a look at the spheros. If you are looking for a reel for short money this reel is sweet. I fished with it all fall, it took a beating and is still just as smooth as the day I got it. It may not be as smooth as the stradic but it does have a waterproof drag. The bail WILL not close on any type of cast.

what type of fishing are you doing with that rod?

I'm going to assume bottom... IMO it is a heavy rod.

the Shimano spheros 12000, 14000 or bait runner 6500 would be good on that rod...

if you already own a penn 7500 or 8500ss just convert to manual bail.

my buddy has the 1102h with the daiwa emblem pro 5500 and he likes it.. his rod is rated to 6oz...

I would think a Penn 706 or the Shimano Baitrunner.

There is the Penn Live Liner 5600L for $140 & Slammer series also , That is if you like Penns like me. The Live Liner is very similar to the Bait Runner - Anti Reverse - Dual Drag system - 6 stainless bb.

i have the tsunami 902mh 1-4oz with a Daiwa 4500 capricorn[$129] throws the braid real nice with the wide spool. Performs best with 3-4oz imho. Used the 3500 for 3yrs-no problems.

Fished a Spheros all season long.The bail NEVER closed promaturely.NOT ONCE.
A Penn SS or Slammer can never make that claim.

Remember I state this fact from a light tackle fisherman's perspective.A Penn 704/706 are the finest reels in their price/weight range.And you fishing an 11'er might want to look at these two.Especially the 706.

What is the difference between the penn 704/706 and the penn 7500 or 8500ss?
