I turned a couple of plugs out of it. It turns well.
From what I read it does not have the anti rot qualities of cedar and has to be really sealed.

good for poppers/bluefish.....seal it well....should work fine..I've spun plugs with it....turns very well........

ya, lots of tearout and grain showing too:happy:
perfect for bluefish plugs:laughs:

it's an interior trim wood but if it's free and you don't care that it'll get trashed, use it up.

I can think of alot more kinds of wood I would buy before spending any money on poplar

I was going to make some needles out of it. Its a 1 1/2 x 6 by 9 foot plank. that would be a lot of needles and its free..

I'll seal the beghesus out of it then

thanks for the heads up :D

I've used it, I find it to be fine to work with, have mad probaly 50 plugs from poplar, had very little tear out issues, I take my time, and keep my tools sharp, finish with sandpaper. makes nice needles... poppers too, never bought any though ;) , and I do seal it well... soak it.
I understand some don't like it, and that's fine by me!
