Condensation in storage
 

I purchased one of those big round top shelters for my boat this year. It is nice because on a 40 deg sunny day, it feels like 60 inside, so I can wax the boat. Sit on it, and pretend I’m fishing. The only down side is with the temperature changes, I am getting some condensation, and over a week or so there will be small puddles of water. Not a big deal.

My question is, should I leave the round access caps on or take them off to let air flow inside the hull? The boat is a HydraSport 212 Walk Around, so there is a lot of dead space under the floor. Will this help evaporate the water? Or will this just let more condensation build inside?

Boat covers should not be too tight. You need to allow air circulation. Hang a fender between the hull and the cover on either side to allow for airflow. Sounds like whatever material it's made of, it doesn't "breathe" at all.

just purchased a 14-14-30 ft. round shelter for my 21 ft seaswirl nedd too put plastic on the ground and then a 1 to 2 inch layer of peastone thats what im doing too prevent condisation how do you like the shelter and did you purchase it from weat haven ct. shawn from ludlow mass

How can condensation hurt the boat? Is there that much water made by condensation that it can be a problem when water freezes? I was taught engine condensation creats more of a problem for out boards then it would on hulls. Edumacate me.

take the ports off and let it breathe. you need air to keep that condensation down otherwise you got mold city next spring...not a good thing.

I love the shelter, I actualy purchased it on line. Had I known there were local people. Cost a small fortune just to ship it. Not to mention trying to unload one thousand pound crate off the back of an 18 wheeler.

My problem is it is on part of my drive way, and water runs down, and settles under the thing. So when the sun warms it, it evaporates and settles on the boat. Not a ton of water, but yes mould was starting to form.
I now just run a fan on nice days every now and then to get the moisture out.

I have a Hydra-Sport 212 W/A , I used to cover it with the Blue Tarps and had a lot of cleaning to do before I could put her in the water. Last year I had the boat Shrinked Wrapped, I really cleaned the boat in October when I took it out, and come last Spring (April) it was perfect to put in the water. I took the shrink off it from stern to bow, rolled it up nice and neet, and used it again this October. I will probably use it again and again.

What brand enclosure did you buy? And what is local one near you. Just curious for in the future I may want one.

If I knew there was a store in the area, for the money I would have driven to get it.

It is nice because when I start to miss fishing, I can go out and sit on the boat. How pathetic!

How does your front floor drain flow? Mine SUCKS! It is very slow. You end up standing in water on rough days. I have had them try to fix it, and they say, thats just how it is.

I don't have any trouble at all with the front drain on my boat. I use the nozzle to wash it out when it does get slow, but it always seems to drain ok! My 212 W/A is a 2001.
