flat danny
I've looked all thru the plug archives and thru my memory and never have seen a plug with a flat oval cross section. It seems to me that you could make a "flat Danny" and eliminate roll. You would need to turn it from three points on the head end and then sand it to make the oval. A topwater Danny is only seen from the bottom and the profile should'nt matter. Sort of like the theory behind a flatwing fly.
Any one seen one or made one? |
No, But I have some oval dowels. Not may guys know of flatwings. I tie and fish 'em all the time. Theyy also make great plug tails.

i just epoxied it the other day, and test swam it. it is the best swiming plug ive made so far :D goes down 2 ft, if i had pliers with me i would have tweeked it. but it was awsome.
getting ready to send it to big bo too :D |
I'm going to make one thats flattened the otherway, like flat back and belly.. kind if like a Frech "rabbit" but with a dannylip... I've been wanting to make it for months, just never had the time.

I don't have a lathe now but with one you can do oval turnings by moving the center. First you turn it round then you move the drive center off the center mark one way and turn it, then the other and turn it, a little sanding and it is a perfect oval. You do not need to move both ends, so you can have round on one end and oval on the other. I think it would be better to just do the oval on the bottom side, it could be really flat then and still be self righting. |
i was just going to use my belt sander, but i'll try the off center lathe trick- I cant promise I will do this soon as I dont make too many plugs, but its on my winter to-do list.
