conrad/pinchney lip help
I want to make some of those 7" - 8" flat faced conrad and pinchney style plugs that have the steep little slope at the head of the plug. From what I can figure, they're about 1 1/4" in diamemter. I have an NJT # 3 pikie lip that looks like it might work as the lip. Any others out there I might try out? Or am I into cut my own territory?
|
the #3 lip should work well but try it as is first, then maybe grind some off the sides to make it just a bit narrower and see how it does then.
|
What would I be looking for in the action of the plug that would tell me that it needs to be ground? Too much roll?
Did the conrad style plugs have a tail weight? |
conrads have atom 40 lips. they are a sinking plug. never had much success with them. looking at one right now, it has belly weight rear of halfway. this is the smaller, 5.5" version, though.

Thanks. UPwards and onwards. That a Beachmaster?

Any one else got an opinion on these style plugs? They catch fish or fishermen?
|
I made one a couple of weeks ago, Pinchney with a slope head. Made out of poplar, about eight inches long, with a #3 pikie lip, a little weight in center. Floats and with a slow retrieve it leaves a wake like a motorboat. I'll have to wait till next year to see if it catches:(
My guess is that they work there is enough of them around. |
that is a beachmaster. i also have an original Pichney. the weight on the Pichney is a touch closer to the center of the plug. the tail is a littler thinner on the Pichney, also. just threw the beachmaster on a scale. 2.1 ounces w/out hooks.

I have made three and I don't weight them. They work great on the surface. They were developed for the fast currents and deep water down off the Montauk shores where they like plugs that do that. Try it without the weight. ( in my son of Some plugs thread I posted a pic of a blue/white one I just made.):D

Flaptail, Is that the post with the two atoms? Big pikie lips on them all?
