what 10' rod have you found to be the best to fish with over there throwing 3oz. and better[plug's] blank/brand/ #/etc...from the beach,,,no rock climbing or swimming to one to fish.

Capesams... alot of guys like the Lami GSB blanks.. the 1021m and L come to mind and alot of the guys will cut 4 inches off the tip.

From what I hear a 1321L with 3-4 inches cut from the tip is a killer rod for big plugs. More than 10' obviously unless you chop the butt as well.

This fall I used my All Star 1208 and it seemed up to the task, of throwing big plugs to catch small fish :smash:

Spence, it is the 1201M. that is the rod i would advise.

Lapinski is right. Big fish, big water, big plugs, big rod Lami 1201M. Although I use the 1321M when targeting really large fish in big water(BI).

Right now I would pic an Arra 1205. Second choice would be an Allstar 1266.

not sure i would go with the Arra. i have spoken to enough guys that prefer the 1201M over the 1205 for big stuff. the Arra's are more prone to breakage. also, the 1266 seemed a little light for BI. haven't fished with it, but i have felt it before. go with the 1201M. i am working on the 1321L cut down to 10', as well as the 1362M cut down to 10'. the 1201M has done everything i would ever ask of it out there, but i always need more toys...

Even though I dont fish the block much, it's still a great stick for SoCo :D

I was asked the other day what they were, and I am drawing a "blank" ;)

Need to get Goosefish to chime in on this one but I was told that alot of the block island guys will have their builder take a
131 1L and cut the tip back to accept a 14 tube. This comes to about 4". I am currently working on both a spinner for a board member(:D ) and a conventional(wrapped spiral) for myself. I will tell you one thing................ with the tip cut this rod feels like it will handle anything thrown at it without loosing its castability.

Once both of these are finished I am sure if anyone would like to give it a cast or two, they will be more than welcome too!

Just a thought! If I were you I wouldnt waste the length and cut the 132 1L down to 10', unless your taking the full 12" off the tip and I dont think you are?

Russ. i am going to clip the tip and go from there. if it feels fine at 10'+, it will stay that way. i won't be starting that one for another few weeks. been to busy to really do much wrapping the past few weeks. working like mad and sending all the $$ right out the door lately. :smash:

I use my Arra 1205 in the canal. Smokey uses the 1266 in the canal. If they can land 35 pounders in 4.5 knots , , those rods will handle Moby #^&#^&#^&#^& anywhere in the world. Both will outcast a Lami 1201M by a lot..

i wasn't saying they couldn't handle fish in current, just covering the casting weight needs Steve is looking for. like i said, my knowlege of those 2 blanks comes only from other fishermen's experiences not personal experience throwing them. what would you consider is an honest rating of the 1266's capability? it felt light to me.

We cast up to 5 OZ jigs with both. Both have a sweet spot at 4 OZ. They both can put 4 OZ jigs out 150 yards. I've seen Arra himself cast 4 about 180 yards with his 1205. Of course you'll get less distance with plugs but the weight is no problem.

Interestingly enough , the Allstar 1267 which because of the 7 you would assume would handle more , will not hamdle 5 OZ. The 1266 will.

what rod you fish on BI is not much different than the rod you fish w/ in SC or CC. it's what you target and what you throw that matters more. there are conditions where an 11' may be better or a 9' may be better, but 10' is about the perfect length rod for rocky shores in rhody. if you are targeting queen fish, then you want a rod that you can lean back on and lean into to throw heavy lures. i have both a 1205 and a 1201m. i have built several of each for customers and all love them for the purpose they use them for. the 1m is a little more moderate in action than the 1205, but both have similar power characteristics. as for breakage of the 1205 or arra's in general, i have yet to see one of my customs break. one such customer had some guy w/ a weird mustache drive over the rod and only a guide cracked. this customer beats his stuff up pretty hard too. what rod do i grab? a 10' sb1363m i cut down. it does everything i want. i like all stars, but they do not fit these applications in my opinion.

There are many many Allstar blanks. I beleive ther is one to fit any application from light schoolie fishing to "8 n bait" heavers. .

Sea wolf , have you ever tried a 1266?? Its a great rod. Honestly casts 2 to 5. It very fast action (if you like that , I do). It casts better than any lami GSB and most XRA's. Very rugged spigot ferrels. A great alternative for those who want a heavier surf rod but must have two pieces for transportation reasons.

Just finished test casting the 132 1L cut down..............Ended up cutting exactly 4" from the tip and I will tell you this! This rod is gonna be very versitile as well as stout! I was told that with 4" off it would require a 14 tube tip but thats not the case................ It needs a 12 tube.

As Spence how it test casted! Granted no wind resistance and just throwing a bank sinker but damn!

I cant wait to setup my conventional/spiral wrap!

I would say that as long as I stick to casting bank sinkers, I will be outcasting most members of the board next season :laughs:
