Epoxy spinners
 

Need to build an epoxy spinner real soon :D I was thinking using a BBQ rotesserie motor. Anyone have pics of theirs to share, Im looking for ideas:D

Used a rotessori motor and PVC pipe. Springs are attached to the arms by way of a cotter pin on the arm. Holds 12 plugs.

Jiggy's spinner is definitely right on the money. Really cant do too much better .
Just ONE word of caution.
BEFORE you do a big batch of plugs like that, do just 1 plug as a test run, because there are so many variables : Epoxy types, viscosity (making # RPM's critical) ,drying(curing actually) time, affected by temp, humidity, and the mixture on some of these epoxies like Syst 3 for example has to be perfectly proportioned & properly mixed.
Once you got the Formula down & build your confidence, then u can do a large batch.

Also... make sure you build your spinner wide enough so you can fit a 12 inch needlefish in it...

It helps to make up a bunch of springs in different lengths for long and short plugs.

I have a spinner and like it, but, if your plugs aren't held in firmly, epoxy can build up on one side, or if they are at an angle, the epoxy can build up in the tail or the nose.

I use the motor also But I have coat hanger wire coming out and can tandem them to do a very long row of plugs:)

yessah.. thats what i thought... one nice thing about this set up is that you dont have to fumble around with a plug that has epxy dripping off of it as you try to wire it up to yoru spinner :smash:

I did 20 plugs on 1 motor b4 but they was small ones;)
those widget smurfsters work the balls.
I finished my year on one of those and a BM bomber in flo multi color:devil: with slip:D

oh yeah i got the pick of the litter the bass love one size more than the others on them, go figure.....

I have seen pics of a spinner made with 2large diameter circles of plywood spaced apart enough for one plug similar setup as jigmans but you place the plugs around the perimeter, as oppsed to the extra ones he has on the inside.

Slip...thats exactly what I was thinking when I saw Jigmans. Ive got some plexiglass that might work. Just make a spool. Thanks for the ideas :)

On mine I apply the epoxy, then put them on the spinner. Use a pair of vise grips to hold the wire while applying epoxy. I have a few different sizes of springs that I'll use depending on the size of the plug. Spring goes on one end, a piece of wire bent into an S-shape on the other. Definitely have to make sure the plugs are held tight or the epoxy will sag. If I do less than 12 plugs, I space them out on the spinner so that the weight is distributed evenly.

(Ive done it several ways. I have put the epoxy on an spin it around with my fingers a bit an hang em take a few minutes an turn em then turn em againComes out ok u gotta wrk with how long between turnin em to get em nice an sometimes i get some spots the epoxy won't move to.I made a wheel my friend used to do em like this he showed me the wheel an i shared it with the guys on the other site yrs ago.i used a pail lid for a template an screwd 2 pieces of 3/8 ply together an cut em out with a jigsaw then i spaced the six small 1/16 holes around the perimeter.an installed hook screws made a hole in the center.an took the screws out installed the 2 pcs on a threaded rod wit nuts an bolts 1/4 rod makes it more adaptable to the motor assembly.keep the pieces about 16 inches apart.This way works ok but i like doin em inline like bm does I put a drill chuck on the motor an hook 5-8 finished plugs together with small s-clips i make outof the wire scraps.clamp it to the table an hook it to a board in the vise with a hook eye an a sampo swivel.I like this way best u can look at what ur doin I use a halogen lamp.Ive made some perfect plugs with this technique. but i gotta get a new motor the old one crapped out an the rod dryin motor i got won't work with the tension on it.BM posted some motor info high speed motors with some kinda reducers.Where do i get that stuff.i think 6 rpm's is a good speed.
