1201M & 1205 Blanks
I have a 1201m & a 1205 blank. One will be wrapped as a conventional matched with an abu 7000; the other will be spinning matched with a VS300. Any suggestions as which blank should be used for the application mentioned?

Rich, I got a 1205 wrapped conv. I'm guessing it would be a good fit for your area. I use it for plugs and jigs in the canal. A little light for a full tide, but still can do it there. Think I'm gonna do the 1201 in spinning for your places. Sweet spot for the 1205 seems to be 3-3.5

T, thanks for the in-put on the 1205. I plan to use the conventional jigging the canal and throwing select needles. The 7000 will be spooled up with mono.

well Rich, if it were me, I'd use the 1205 for the canal, so I'd wrap that one conventch

is there anything that would make one blank or the other more suited to be wrapped one way as opposed to the other way?
Rich and i were having this conversation last week. the input i had was to go conventional with the 1201M and spinner for the 1205. my reason being that i personally like a little slower action for my conventionals. the 1205 has been described as a bit of a faster action than the 1201. is there truly anything makes one blank more suited for either style? perhaps MikeP will chime in here as he seems to have at least 2 of every lami rod ever made. of course, you could just follow my lead and build a spinner and a conventional on every single surf blank. :D |
you won't be disappointed in either direction you go/wrap. i like both rods, built both ways as i have wrapped each one, each way. as toby mentioned, the 1205 is slightly less parabolic than the 1201m and has a tighter feel due to the faster action of the blank. with that in mind, you should ask yourself what you plan on doing more of - casting or spinning and build the one you like most in that manner.

I'd do both spinning:D

Wrap them both conventional ! Spinners are for light stuff like 1 OZ or less. :)
|
leave em both blank, so we can go jousting, via beach buggy :ss:
|
one thing Rich didn't mention is the spinner will be a back up to his 1201 spinner he already has.

I have a 1205 spinner, but it's a factory job I bought at a blow-out price after they were discontinued as a production rod.
For the things I want a spinning rod for, I think the 120 1M makes a better one. |
Thanks guys for the in-put. That was great info and direction from all.....Krispy put down the scotch :smash:
The 1205 will go conventional :D |
