Big Blue light last night in RHody...

Anybody fishing Rhody lat night know what the big bang & blue light was from Westerly? There was this massive blue light fromt the airport area last night that shot up in the sky (no, I was not under the infulence of mind or plug altering drugs) - there was some noise afterwards but from 7 miles or so away I wasn't certain if it was from the same source....

It was us. We were illuminating the Westerly area in an attempt to keep you guys from finding fish while ruining your night vision.;)

Didn't work ;) :D :D :D

hmm..

sounds like a blown transformer...we get those out here all the time. Who knows??

Yup---sounds like some sort of electrical explosion. I think Westerly State Airport has some sort of instrument landing approach to one of their runways and they often have their own generators to prevent a sudden power failure causing a plane on short final from losing the guideslope/localizer beam being transmitted when it's low to the ground.

I did see the Aurora Borealis on a very clear, cold night from watch Hill Light, too. But obviously that wasn't what made a sudden flash and explosion.

This was just a thick neon blue light rising up a hundred or so feet in the sky - much like a beam - that lasted not even a second - seemed to come from the airport area (again I was several miles away) but everyone where I was fishing saw it too... I was more thinking that there is some kind of gas in the blue lights ringing the airport - the noise may have been from that but not sure - could a been a wader muffled gasseous noise from down the beach a little too.... There was intermittent fog earlier in the evening but that had cleared up by then....

You're correct sir, on some crisp & cold nights in October and November, I've seen the Aurora Borealis from WH, Quonny, Menemsha, & Nantucket....

wow..

You guys are sooo lucky..never seen the aurora myself...

(I did see mount everest though...:D )

Maybe Kirk got inside the obelisk and made the blue flame come out!

This thread could be allot of fun if, you let your mind run amuck. I will wait on the side’s lines while you folks think it over. This post could easily exceed the “what would you do?’ post. May be even set a new all time star recommendation Record. :o

Maybe Don ejected the warp core from the eeltank at Weekapaug....
Linesides is trying to encourage the masses here - I could -maybe - think of something better AFTER morning coffee...
