Nags Head

I'm in the truck via a laptop and cell phone on 95N just south of Washington. We just had a great day fishing out of Oregon Inlet on a 22' Angler. The morning starter with a 55 as soon as we left the dock.... It was a 55' Buddy Davis that ran aground in the fog...

We had thick fog up to around noon so we dragged "Mo-Jo's" I'm glad we don't use these up North. The rod and lure must of pushed 20lbs. We hooked 5-6 fish using this method keeping 2 for the trip north. People looked at us like we had 2 heads releasing 40" Stripers. Its sad to think that the 150 boats out there were keeping almost every fish they landed. The fish are sitting in 50" of water just gourging themselves on the abundent schools of bait swimming on the Outter Banks. Thease fish are all fat and healthy looking.

When the fog cleared we chased the birds hAving a blast landing 20lb fish on Hab's with light Quantum and Shimano spinning rigs.

This was an 11 hour drive and a great time for me and my fishing buddy from CT. We are stopping in Annapolis to visit his brother tonight and look at a boat tomorow.

It was very intrestesting to view this diffrent way of fishing and witness the great migration of the Striped Bass. The day also was filled with 70 deg weather, breaching whales and Dolphins swimming in the surf. The sad part was viewing the 30 - 55' Buddy Davis Type Sportsfisherman's slaughtering 16 fish per boat.

I love OBX, I've only been in the spring/summer, got to try the fall and winter some time. Fishing is truely a way of life down there, even more so than New England. Glad to hear you had a successful trip :kewl:

wow...looks like you had a nice trip. Did you trailer your boat down there or charter?

MTC 01-09-2005 10:11 AM

Charter.... next year trailer.... we wanted to get the lay of the land

MTC,
Looks like you had a good trip down to the OBX, I hear what you are saying with the amount of fish being taken and not released. I think it's just the Charter mentality though, folks pay big dollars for the trip and they want to return with fish.

Were you fishing right outside of Oregon Inlet?

One more question...did you guys fish out of oregon inlet and fish around the inlet or were you further to the north?

MTC 01-09-2005 06:12 PM

We were 3-6 miles north of the inlet. If anybody is making the trip pm me I'll give you some info...
