Tube tails
 

Has anyone ever tried those new Tube Tail like lures...hey look like a squid and you can imbead jighead weights in them. I saw them someplace that had them in the 6-8" range but all the catalogs are inthe 4" class.
I was just wondering if anyone here has tried them out.

Are you talking about the large chrome-like jighead with a portion of plastic tube for the body?
If yes, then I used this year two of them in the 2-4oz range in the heavy/windy surf and they caught blues better than what half of the guys were throwing. Only used them in those conditions though.

They are seeing an increase in surf use after years of successfull use in freshwater. They do make a saltwater version you just have to find it. They have been profiled in Salt Water Sportsman a few times. I think the Salt Water ones are called Mega Tubes.

The larger ones you are talking about are called "Tora" tubes and are super popular out west where the largemouth feed on stocked rainbow trout. The 5" and 6" versions are called Magnum Squidzits.

Believe it or not I used to cast those 5 and 6" ones to bedding largemouth back in my tournament days when they were totally ignoring the small stuff.

I fished in a tournement on Kerr Lake maybe 5 yrs ago an the big tube wit a 3/4 oz head on heavy flippin gear wit 25 lb test was the tickek I Got a few over 5lbs with that set up.In the spring the lake rises into the woods an if u weren't flippin the buckbrush u weren't fishin.The thing would go down like 25 MPH an the would just suck it in on the fall.

I used them for years fresh water then started to use them off the bridge in Padanaram for schoolies. They worked great would think a larger version would work for larger fish too. I am headed to N.Y next week end on a boar hunt and will stop at Bass Pro shop and see if they have some of the Jumbo ones there. If so would you like a few to try????
