Envirotex lite
You guys that use it, How many coats do you put on?
I just made a spinner finally and put a thick coat on 13 plugs. They look great. |
One usually, 2, if I want them to look like candy.
|
I do one thick one. They drip a bit at first and I have to clean up the loops with a razorblade, but in the end they are bullet proof.
|
1 thin coat on that plug I gave you Slip....you like?;)
|
I've use just about all the epoxies out there an the envirotex was by far the most user friendly.one coat like glass.Unfortunately its not as hard. Its on that black an purple swimmer I gave ya.There's not one blemish on that plug.
|
I did one coat on a bunch of #^^^^^^^^^^^& popper bodies and I'm going to feed them to a bunch of 'cuda down the Keys in a week . . . I'll let you know how they hold up :D
|
Ouch.
|
NIB - just to clarify . . .
Like several others here - I bought some sealed, but otherwise unfinished #^^^^^^^^^^^& popper bodies - I took it from there with primer, paint, Etex, wiring, etc. In no way was I knocking #^^^^^^^^^^^&s finished product ( I have them by the box full :D ) - sorry if I caused any confusion I should have been clearer :smash: |

Makes it easy to apply the finish and drop glitter on them. BM has been doing it this way for years. A rotissery motor would work well also. |
Bruce I used my rod box as a spinner for a while.. I had them set up inline like yours .. They never spun at a constent speed because of the weighting of the plugs .. They would slowly turn then woosh as the belly weight momentum took over .. This would give me sags in my finish .. drove me nuts .. Tried it again staggering the belly weight positioning,, somehow they would find eachother again .. Maybe it was the crap sb 112 I was using.. you obviously have avoided this ..maybe not enough supports .. i duno .. into mirror coat now .. bet you knew that ..:)
|
Tagger, I just checked my finish on the last batch and I spin it in my hand and notice the humps like you had I guess :(
It wasn't spinning perfect and would jump, maybe because the wire wasn't perfectly straight or like you said, the weighting, but it happened on stuff that had no weight yet or very little. I'll try a shorter run of them and be sure the wire is taught and straight next time , or back to something else. |
Double sided masking tape on the wire, just enough to hold the plug. P I A though
|
Slip, you might try spinning less plugs at a time, then using small screw hooks in each end of the plug, attach springs between each plug to tighten up the line by pulling tight.
|
You can also alternate the plugs, so they stagger top and bottom and head to tail. This seems to balance better. I use wire hooks and stopped using springs. What I found helps is the hooks are slightly offset so there is a straight pull. I do 7 or 8 at a time this way and they don't get the sags anymore. It even worked with darters. My dryer motor turns very slowly, but I don'y know what effect this might have.
|
After some thought about the humps I think you are putting to much epoxy on.
When I coat them I put on a lot then hit with a heat gun. (takes out the bubbles) B careful as the paint doesnt like it. Next I brush most of the epoxy off leaving a thin coat and no worries. A second thin coat can only help. |
ya, I hit them with the heat gun too, and saw the wave action so maybe it was too much epoxy. I should have skimmed some off I guess.
I don't think the fish will care. |
hey slip, who carrys envirotex around here? took a quick peek at the new loew's and they didn't.
|
AC Moores
and Michaels might have it too. Did you try the hardware store? |

Slip How fast is the motor RPM's I find 6 is better than 4. more than likely too much epoxy but if they don't sit level u'll get lumps. |
6
and I have no pulling pressure at all on the motor, all the pressure is on the bearing setup against the plywood. |
Is that one of the plastic closet pole hangers.u put a screw eye through it wit a bearing from a shower door against it.how does ur shower door work now???:)
how fast is that motor |
I said 6 :smash:
|
Slip, Too much envirotex applied at one time.....2 thin coats are much better, no sags...... Ray
