Tagger,

I have been collecting all kinds of hooks. For that fine work of art you need som BIG strong hooks....The best.

I would go with:

1) Owner Stinger 66 trebles probably 4/0 (but you could go smaller)(IMO these are the strongest best made hooks that I have seen...incredable sharp, great welding) expensive but worth it ....figure 2-3 bucks each in that size

2) 24 ct. Gold Plated SS trebles. *very* hard to get. Look awesome are very strong but the wire is not at heavy as the owner above. I have a few but I am saving them for when i get that american flag plug (someday)...I want to put gold hooks on it. Price is tough to swallow. I could hook you up with a guy who will sell you a big plug with the gold hooks, and you could take them off and put them on your plug. You looking at 25 bucks for a plug with these gold hooks. (its a great plug too) (He will not sell the hooks separately...I've tried)

3) VMC 6X trebles. sharp strong, practical Price not too bad (but they rust) figure .40-.50 each.

5) Eagle Claw 777S stainless trebles (if you can find them) (I have a few I could part with but they are 20 years old (but still look OK) but may not be large enough for a 12" plug

4) You need triple split rings.

6) Consider a perfectly tied tail hook. I would go classic stainless siwash, closed eye triple ring with matching bucktail with a hint of flash.

IMO that would be my choices....

(If you *ever* want to sell me one please PM me....

:)

i got some old mustad 6/0 open eye.i got 7/0 an 8/0 's also.but they are the new duratin hooks.

NIB 01-26-2005 11:31 PM

If ur gonna use a closed eye siwash an a split ring ur tailrap should be horizontal.or the hoook sits sideways.ur gonna have a hard time findin a reel big open eye.I think I might have something.I know I got 9/0 wit a swivel an closed eyes.people seem to have trouble wit the stainless open eye probably because they over work em tryin to close em I have never broke any but i seen em brake. They get plenty of tuna on the ones i closed.

I believe I have some 8/0 VMC siwash hooks somewhere if you need them. Closed eye.
