USS San Francisco
Many of you might recall the sub that hit a submerged ocean sea mount at 30+ knots a couple weeks back. One sailer was killed and many seriously injured. There was also scuttlebutt that they were lucky to surface the boat and not sink with all hands lost.
Here is a pic of the sub and a link to the Navy's site with an article: http://www.navy.mil/view_single.asp?id=21182 http://www.navy.mil/management/photo...-4658L-015.jpg For those with the bandwidth, check out the Hi Res image and look at the torpedo doors. I'm not a sub guy but I imagine they must run around loaded with at least one or two warshots ready to go. Damn those boys were lucky. Good and lucky. |
very sad indeed. first and foremost for the family of that sailor and secondly you would think that this couldn't possibly happen.

That is amazing. My brother in law is in the Navy and spent many years working in Subs.....Takes a special breed to do that.
