Mvp

I think the MVP should have been either Harrison or Bruski, not that Branch didn't have an awesome game but without the awesome performance of the defence, they may not have won.
It's not very often a defensive player gats MVP. I think LT was the last to get it.
What do you guys think?

Those 11 catches tied a super bowl record and they were clutch catches, I think he deserved it as much as anyone.

GO PATS!!!!!!!!!!! This is Heaven!!

Ray Lewis?

I think Ray Lewis was last man to win MVP from defensive side. P.M.

Nope--Dexter Jackson, the safety from the Bucs.

too bad they could't give it to the whole "team". 11 catches for Branch but no TD's. So many great performances. Kevin Faulk, Rodney, Bruski, Brady.

Despite the total yards, the biggest goat award has to go to McNab. He had some big mistakes and looked real bad IMHO.

I think Rodney should have got it but I guess the voting must be done 5 min before the game.

Slipknot 02-07-2005 08:45 PM

voting is done during the 4th quarter, but ya have to admit, 11 catches is pretty impressive in a superbowl, he had 10 last year. I think it could have gone either way. I would have been very happy for Rodney if he got it.

ProfessorM 02-08-2005 11:42 AM

I think Mr. Branch is one of only three offensive players to win the MVP and not score a touchdown. Any guess's on other two. P.M.

Excluding quarterbacks, of course? ;)

Fred Biletnikoff is one. Can't remember any others

Did you have to bring that up!:(

Broadway Joe

Not excluding qb's. Don't know if you have to actually run in for a score might have to have been involved in a pass to someone who scored, an assist. Fred is one the other I think is Broadway Joe. Let me know if I am right. I did not get this right either. Stumped by a friend. P.M.

Namath is the only winning SB QB who didn't throw a TD pass during the game--the Jets only TD was on a run by Matt Snell.

Neither Morrall nor Unitas threw a TD pass either, so it was the only SB ever played without a passing TD.

Did he win the MVP for that superbowl? P.M.

Yup, altho a lot of people believe Snell deserved it more. Snell had 30 carries for 121 yards, plus 4 catches out of the backfield. Namath's numbers weren't all that impressive--17/28, 206 yards. But, he called all of his own plays, mixed it up and kept the ball out of the Colts' hands.

Of interest to Pats' fans---Babe Parilli was Namath's back-up and spelled him for a series, throwing one pass that was incomplete.

Baltimore killed themselves with 5 turnovers---Morrall was picked off 3 times, Unitas once, and they also had a fumble.

Thanks
