Where do you get those eyes Big Fish?
The big eyes Steelhead I just got from Craftking.com...12 MM clear eyes and you paint behind them the color you want. They add life to the plug for sure.;)

Sorry Tagger...its easy. Drill the eye hole, it was 1/2 inch on the jointed swimmer. Eye socket must be deep enough so the router bit I use to shape the edges can have enough room to cut. Then in the drill press put a router bit, I used a 3/4 inch, plug still has square ends, and very slowly drop it into the eye socket and let it carve the eye socket just the way you want it. (I stress very slowly as if you go too fast the router bit will chew and spin the plug at your head);) The smaller plugs are easier as I just use a round dremel bit to do this. A little sanding and they look great!:D
I hope this helps. |
Larry .. I've never put a router bit in my drill press, good idea .. .. I'll have to try . thanks . helps alot ..
Slowly Ed...slowly!;)
Tagger, you should try a router bit in yer drill press when doing popper mouths :kewl: johnny
Detail question... You cutting the little thingy off the back of the eyes before putting them in place?
Yes Steelhead I cut about half of it off...the rest I epoxy in and it should never come out.;)
Thanks Big Fish
