Faceshield

I did my impersonation of Gump Worsley today and took one off the forehead. Thankfully I had safety glasses, although they were on the bench. Now I know why I need a faceshield. Any recommendations on where to purchase one. Paul

I have an extra one, you can have.
I don't know where nearby you can get one but it should not be too hard to locate.

I'll take it if you really want to give it to me. I will pay you if you would like. I am only a mile or two from you. I can pick up. Maybe we can trade. Let me know and thanks. Paul

Home depot, Lowes, Sears all should have them. Never turn without one.

took one off the faceshield once, still got a gouge in it, that would've left a mark! like jig said "never turn without one".

I'd like to know how these pcs. o wood r flyin off your lathe? r you pushing to hard with your chisels...cutting to fast,,getting to close to center of the wood on the ends....dull tools?

piemma 02-20-2005 07:42 AM

Home Depot $30. I have an AYC explode in my face Saturday. If I didn't have the shield on...I would be blind. Put a big gouge in the face plate.

afterhours 02-20-2005 07:44 AM

i think my flyer was caused by a split in stock that i overlooked, sob split in half. i check more carefully now.

Capesams:
I was rushing to get one last blank done. Got to close to the end with a 1" gouge. Bang!! Stupidity on my part but you know, $#@% happens!

The first time i turned some wood at my friends place i guess i was pressing a little to hrd:rolleyes: an blue up one then another but they came off the spinning part.so they didn't go flyin.that was it i just feel more comfortable wit it on.At work I almost never where glasses.I got alot more respect for the lathe I guess because of the unfamiliararity of it.Is that a word.

It was rock maple and it must have had a split in it. I did not notice. It split around the center hole. The whole piece did not come out of the lathe just a big piece, which went airborne. I do not think I was being too aggresive but I sure was tenative after that for a while. Can you say chicken. At work I usually do not have to worry about the part flying out of the lathe but the red hot chips sticking to your face or going down your shirt. P.M.
